The new broadband sounder from Lowrance. Has anyone had the chance to try this new technology out? I have mine hooked up, but have not had a chance to use it yet. Is there a notible difference and enhancement?
Thanks

At first you may not think so but if you can run a side by side with another sonar you will see a big difference. All of the marks near the bottom from this LBS shot were just blended into to the bottom compared side by side to a LCX 26hd standard sonar.

Another big advanage is that it will turn a non-sonar Globalmap unit into a sonar. I use mine with a Globalmap 9200.
Cost of the LBS-1 is $550 to $600.

This sounds like it actually an advantage to seeing fish laying on the bottom? Does it look like the picture posted? I'm excited to use this. Thanks for the responses.

What do you normally run your screen at? As far as color? I believe there is night, day, etc. What is the best settings for this broadband unit? What would you suggest?

Yes there are lots of color combinations to pick from. I tried them all and for the most part use this one, which is bright white, or general setting for water.

It will really just depends on what you like to see, and what shows up best in bright sunlight. This is the one for me.

I just received mine in the mail. Did you add an on/off switch? Can you wire it to a trolling motor battery or cranking batery?

I wired it according to the instructions, direct to the batteries. I used an on/off switch on the console. If you don't switch it it would be on all the time, rather you were using it or not. Nothing to setup. Really just plug and play. Mount it somewhere out of the way. Lowrance really made this simple and easy.

Did you wire to the starting battery?
Lowrance recommends that you don't because of the potential voltage drop that may reset the unit.
I don't really want to have another battery on board just for the BBS.

I have two batteries on a two way switch. Either, or, or both can be a staring battery. I wire everything direct to the batteries and have never had any voltage drop problems. Have done it this way for years with different boats, never a problem. Maynot be the prefered way, but it works for me.

O.K. I have it hooked up. I had to put it somewhat close to the electric or fuse panel, is this bad? I guess I really dont have another spot for it, I was just wondering what you suggest. I know they suggest as far away from power sources, but what if you dont have a choice? I'm assuming this is a controlled box, it shouldnt make my electronics burn up?
Are you taking these pictures off your graph with the new photo shot? Can you make that picture 3d? How? Those pictures that you have, I would imagine you're loading them to a mmc card and putting them on your computer? Cool, this stuff is really getting unbelievable.
THanks for all your help!

I'm going to venture the guess to say they suggest you mount it away from other electronics for interference reasons, and if you not getting interference, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes all the screenshots are of the Lowrance unit, a new feature with the latest Lowrance update. Put an "X" in the screenshot box, lightly push the power key, and whatever is on the screen is saved to the SD/MMC card. It is saved as a .jpg file. You can also load .jpg files on a card and display the photos on the Lowrance unit. It is helpful to have a Lowrance unit with two card reader slots, so to avoid writing on chart data cards. Here are more screen shots. The 3D stuff is king of a novelty to me, cannot find any real use for it. You need a Navionics "Platinum" card for all of this.
Cobb Island, Md., my home port, in 3D
 Point Lookout, Md.

Lots of aerial shots like this for marinas that will display on the Lowrance unit screen, just push the wpt key

My boat is a center console with very limited space for electronics. Where I mounted the LBS it is close to everything, including radar, a heading sensor, and all the wires going back to the battery. Have not encountered any problems.
