A Computer Guide to the St Croix River

The St Croix River offers some great fishing and camping opportunities. There is a lot of useful information available from federal, state, county and city government agencies that manage the riverway and the communities located along the river. Much of this information is just a click away using the internet and your personal computer. This listing of the different internet links is an effort to draw this information together in a document to facilitate your ease of use. Our aim was not to draw everything together but to gather as much as we could and give you a good point to start from. We hope this helps you plan a great trip.

Boating Rules for the Lower St Croix Scenic Riverway:
The Lower St Croix Scenic Riverway runs from Taylor Falls,MN / St Croix Falls, WI to the St Croix's confluence with the Mississippi River at Prescott, WI. This stretch of river has some unique boating rules and it is important that every boater be aware of the boating regulations with the Lower St Croix. This link will provide you a printable brochure showing the No-Wake Zones and special speed restrictions and boating rules. I recommend printing it and keeping a copy in your boat for reference.

That is awfully nice of the people at IDA and yourself to offer all that info. I would
wager the unsavvy computer users (I am one) on this site would never have unearthed all that info!!!

Great stuff!!!

Why oh why is this, one of the very best posts ever in the st.croix forum, not stuck to the top of the forum, I wish you would sticky this thread, such a great post shouldn't go to waste. This post deserves a sticky

Do I have to start pm'ing you st.croix rats until this is done? Don't tempt me

Thanks

There you go, Nick! Golly - don't rile up the natives. I'm on it

I am going to be updating this post this winter when I have some time. I need to revist all the URLs and make sure they are still good. I want to tweak it a little bit to make it easier to use too. I didn't want to take up too much space on the initial page with a permanent sticky but this one does answer most questions getting asked. If anyone finds an URL that doesn't work please post a reply so I can chase it down.

C-15,

How far up river can you take a boat on the Croix? I would like to try for some flatties north of stillwater this year.

Thanks!

From still water you can go up to the high bridge if I remember right. If you want to boat above the high bridge you need to put in above it.

Hi Audemp - Sorry for the late response, I just noticed your post. MikeW is right. The upstream limit is the Arcola Railroad Bridge at River Mile 28.6. This upstream limit was imposed by the National Park Service to control the upstream infestation of zebra mussels. If you are originating from south of the upstream limit you are not allowed to pass above the High Bridge. If you put your boat in upstream (William O'Brien State Park, Somerset Landing, Log House Landing. Osceola Landing, etc) you can come down as far as you want. If you want to catch some nice catfish that water from the High Bridge to William O'Brien State Park is not fished much for cats. The state record 70 lb flathead came out of that stretch of water.
