Here's an article from IDA Pro Staffer Derek Johnston that discusses a very unique approach to icing winter panfish when the bite gets tough!

Nice article Derek. I also love to chase panfish on the ice. This sounds like it might work really well when the fish are in a negative mood. Seems to me it might intice them to bite. Love2Fish

Good read there Derek. I may just have to try that method this winter. In the past I have always used bait on my flys.

the article was right on! i have been using flies for over 20 years, my grandpa used them and taught us kids. great for gills, perch and crappies. some times the jig and waxing attract them first and then hit the fly, other times the fly attracts them and then they hit the jig. today the fly slayed the perch, got my limit on jumbos, smallest being 13" all in about 2 hrs!

sideways - a beer and a hand grenade pin in one hand - a smokin' rifle in the other - body thoroughly
used up, totally worn out, and screaming - WOO HOO!? What a ride!"
