In-Depth Outdoors Pro Staffers Scott Steil, Matt Grow and James Holst take to the ice mid-december on a Central Minnesota Lake in search of trophy class walleyes.

Well guys, here's the entire show. I've encoded it at a 250kbps bitrate so anyone on dial-up is going to have issues. The quality of the video is pretty good... except for the underwater shots. These web videos just don't do those segments justice and the only solution is to catch the next episode on TV or get the DVD.

Hey James!!! AWESOME SHOW Loved it! Appreciate you putting this on here for us to view. And I look forward to more episodes!!! This was by far the best fishing show I have seen yet... though I am kinda partial to hard water and haven't seen any other hard water fishing shows.
I have an idea for one of your next shows! You should take along an "amatuer" fisherman and use that person as the person you are "instructing". Would be great! I always love watching shows where the pro is "teaching" the novice! I would volunteer! You wouldn't even have to pay me any royalties!!!
This EXACT idea was proposed recently and I plan to take this guy up on the offer teaching him how to pitch plastics on the river this spring at the height of the spring run.
We might have to hold a little drawing to pick an IDA member to appear in an ice fishing version of that type of show next season.
Again, great idea!

Thanks for puting the entire episode online. I thought the video quality was great! It looked like you guys had a lot of fun and it was great to learn a few things also!
Thanks much James - it came through perfectly - wish we had it down here in Iowa on the big screen but it was fun to watch here either way... sure wish I could make it up to the GTG but we have our National Pheasants Forever Pheasant Fest in Des Mones this weekend and I am on the State Council so duty calls. You guys have fun up there... I'll be wishing I too could be fishing. Chuckles

Just finished watching it...AWESOME show James !! Thanks very much for doing this for those of us outside the viewing area. It was very informative, and I'm sure I'll wach it several more times. What's a jig-a-bit? I know about devils and red #2 hooks...can you post a pic? Does Wade at Jolly Ann carry them? Thanks..looking forward to the next show. LundgEYE
Great show! the thing i would like to see would be a close up of the lures/setups used. I know its always nice to learn about new baits and ways people rig things. Like the tip up covers were sweet, ive been using 5 gallon bucket covers for years but im goona have to get some of them
Great tip on adding a close-up of the rigs. We'll be sure to do just that in all future episodes.
Once of the things that we have as an advantage over most other shows is that the people watching can get up from their TV set (or finish watching the videos here) and hit the forums here for more info.
I bet Scott will swing in here tomorrow and give you all the info you could ever ask for on how he rigs his tip-ups.

A Jig-a-bit is the jig James posted above. They are made by Scenic Tackle and I have been using them for many years on my tip-ups. I prefer to use them in clean water shallower than 24 ft. On most lake Jig-a-bits work very well under a tip-up. The hook is fairly large and they work well with larger bait as you saw in the video.
I also run the set-upu shown in the video. Basically a plain hook and a slit shot. Not a lot to that rig, but it can be deadly at times. I usually run a combination of each set-up and let the fish tell me what the want. Usually it is one of the other, not both.
In addition to the setups I mentioned above, I run an inline slip sinker. Just a little more weight to the system but using a slip sinker is a must. Ok, maybe we will cover all this in another show
Good job guys. A quality show for sure. Love the real reactions to flags and not scripted, like you see on so many shows today. Reminds me of the Tony Dean style, which I really appreciate. Keep up the good work guys !!!

:bow That was awesome!! James, Scott, and Matt you guys did an excellent job with the show. I can't wait to see the next episode!! See you guys this weekend!!
The only thing I would focus on a little bit more is gear selection... Just a little basic overview of your rod/reel setup and line (I noticed you said you were using 4# line), and general lure selection. Your tip ups were rigged with the standard tip up line to a barrel swivel where the weight was, you ran a mono(or floro) leader of ?? pound test to your hook/jig of choice. I assume that wasnt 4# test fishing weed beds with big minnows.
James, Scott, and Matt, I will honestly say, that was one of the best fishing shows I have ever seen. Unlike most you guys actually give useful information, and techniques that will make us all more successful. Oh well it's off to Gander for some Jig-a-bits and #2 red hooks for the GTG this weekend. I look forward to seeing you guys there. I will be the little guy following Fisher Dave around. Thanks again for the great show. John
This is the greatest, now I can watch fishing shows at work.

We ran a leader of 14# vanish flourocarbon. The stuff is invisible underwater and has a reputation for being VERY abrasion resistent. It was the ticket for the walleyes in the clear water we were fishing and the line did a good job on the pike. We lost a couple fish, including a massive 40"+ specimen that wouldn't go "nose up the hole" but for the most part if we hooked it we landed it.

Is there anyway you can change a video over so you can see it on another version? Like go from Adobe to Windows media. I still can't get this Adobe to work on my puter but every other video source will work. Just wondering.
Thanks,

I'm sorry, we will only be offering our videos in FLASH 8. We tried offering videos here in a windows media format over the summer and the playback issues drove me to drink and the quality at the same bitrate is so poor that I consider the footage unwatchable.

Our next shoot is going to be on a lake with 16 foot visibility and we'll be fishing in 6' - 8' of water. You guys can expect some awesome underwater footage with the next installment.
Be sure to share this first video with friends.

Wow, that really made My day. Seriously. I watched half of it this morning. Watched more of it again at school with no sound and finally sat down and watched the whole thing now. I really like how you guys showed strategic elements that help you catch fish. I could really picture what was going on. IT was pretty cool how you covered everything from traveling in the beginning, fishing glo devils, using a flasher, tip ups, jig rods...it was all there. Truely a great show!
James, Scott and Matt
For being out of the veiwing range I REALLY appreciated being able to see the 1st show of IDO . Looked great and cant wait to see more episodes of the show ..
Some guys have all the fun.
From my house to yours I say thanks again GREAT JOB

Thanks for putting this on the site from those of us who weren't going to be able to see it! Very informative...not just showing "the catching" The same reason the Trolling DVD is so excellent! Look forward to more....Thanks again! Brian

We had them but we had to take them off. It made the audio sound like we were recording a bag of potato chips being slowly squashed by a big set of hands.

Great Show!!! Helped pass the time in a hotel room in North Carolina wishing I was home in Wisconsin. They think you are crazy down here when you talk about ice fishing.

Jet...no need to worry....we are ALL crazy here with ya. What fun would it be if we were all sane??? Gotta love fishing. I prefer the open water stuff BUT I'm not sitting in the house til spring when I can be on water, even if its hard, FISHIN. Now if I can just get rid of this darn flu and cold I can get CRAZY again. Thanks, Bill
