What equipment is needed for boaters at an ARM event?
Many of these folks not only don't have fishing equipment, but have never fished before or have been in a boat.
Your boat would need to hold at least 3 people. A Big, a Little and yourself. You would need to outfit the "Big and Little" with equipment, rods, bait (maybe supplied the day of the event), fishing tips/instructions and lifejackets. A cell phone or marine band radio is helpful.
Beverages and food are normally donated.
Don't let being short of equipment and the like stop you from attending. Post what you need in this forum and someone on this board has an extra - that you can use. We need shore help too.
As far as insurance goes, you/ARM doesn't charge anything for the fishing event so your regular insurance would cover it - just as if you were taking a friend fishing. (To be safe you might want to check with your insurance carrier).
A question that frequently pops up is..."I'm not a guide and I've never fished P4 before, how will I put my little on a 30 inch walleye?" Remember, these kids are out here to have a great day on the water and catch fish...put a worm on their hook and catch some "fish"...any fish! In past years some littles just wanted to drive the boat or go through the lock...(check with the lock master to ensure that a barge won't block your return).
The most important item to bring is your willingness to help out for a awesome cause! The rest is just details!
