Brandon Rolen is a beautiful young boy loved by his parents Sampson & Malune Rolen. I've had the opportunity to get to know Brandon by spending time working with his father on our IDO TV projects. Brandon's dad, Sampson, is the camera man and editor for all of the TV episodes you've seen here and he has quickly found a fit with all of us here at In-Depth Outdoors. It has been my pleasure to get to know Sampson and consider him to be a good man, a good friend.... and a great father.
His son Brandon could use our help. Brandon has a SMA-I. Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA-I) is a terminal genetic disease. Infants with this disease do not usually live past the age of one year old.
About SMA-I....
The disease causes the voluntary nervous system to shrivel up and die, leaving the infant paralyzed from the chin down. The infants brain function is not effected by the disease nor is the involuntary nervous system. This disease does not affect brain function, but instead it seems to increase the infant’s intelligence; however, without the ability to move or talk, it is an extremely cruel disease. The children are limited to communicating with their eyes only. This is why the Brandon Rolen Foundation is raising money for these children to purchase a communication computer that will allow the children to say, “I love you Mom and Dad” for the first time along with anything else they want to say.
I'm hoping that our In-Depth Outdoors family can help make this a reality!
The Brandon Rolen Foundation is holding a fishing tournament in an effort to raise funds for the Brandon Rolen Foundation and the support of the In-Depth Outdoors family, through participation and / or donations, will help ensure this event is a success.

I am very familiar with SMA, all types. My bro is type II and my daughter was a type I. Lindsey was her name. She passed at 10 months of age. It is a terrible disese. Dear IDA Family,
I’m Brandon’s father. The picture in this initial post is my wife, Malune, my oldest son, Sampson, 5 y.o. and holding the video camera, and my youngest son, Brandon, he just turned 4 y.o. (Said by the doctors to be impossible.).
Brandon makes ‘ah’ and ‘uh’ noises as talking attempts, but does most of his communication through his eyes and in his movement of his eyebrows. He has never been able to talk because one of the first nerves to deteriorate was the bulbar nerve (swallowing and gag reflex nerve). We have learned so much from Brandon. People often say that it must be hard for us, but we always tell them that Brandon actually charges our internal batteries. No matter how tough our day was in the office, spending five minutes with Brandon just puts us at ease and places a huge smile on our face.
I had to resuscitate Brandon 5 times – one being at the hospital, and my wife had to one time while she was home alone and watching Sampson (he was 2 years old then). I can remember the screaming over the cell phone for HELP. My wife just recently learned CPR through me and this was the first time actually taking the steps. I raced home. I thought my son was going to pass without being able to say one more I love you or being able to say goodbye. I flew into the house, car still running outside, and into Brandon's room. Malune was full of tears and turned to me and said ' I DID IT ' as she cried even louder. Brandon was looking at Mom with his eyes saying THANK YOU MOM, I LOVE YOU MOM....
I'm not good at saying thanks, especially to poeple I don't know very well yet. So, I hope you can introduce yourself to me and allow me to know you and say Thank You. I want to introduce you to my family.
This truly means the world to us and to the children with SMA-1.

James, can you set up an auction for me? I'm putting an open seat up for grabs and I want the proceeds to go directly to this cause.
The open seat will be for muskie fishing on Deer Lake, Polk County, WI., available from September 8 until first ice (which is usually early November). I've dialed those fish in as well as a technique that I haven't seen the other anglers using. On my last outing, 11-6-06, I produced more action with this technique than I could with live bait, and at a ratio of 5:1. Of course, I can't make any promises, but I can almost guarantee some action. The price of this unguided, open seat starts at $50.00.
Can you help me with this James?

James, I have a new PSE Spyder Youth / small adult bow that I'm willing to donate for auction.....bought new (from ebay) this winter for my 8 yo's Xmas present; but it happens to be just a little too big for him...I can get pictures. It has a draw weight between 40-50# and draw lenght of 23-28". It is a right-handed bow. I don't think it has ever been shot.

This is my first post. I moved here last year from Cal., my wife is a native MN. gal. This post and the response that it has received is part of the reason why we moved. People still care here. I will donate/auction 4 T-Wolves tickets, section 118, row G, seats 15-18 for the April 7 games vs. the Hornets. They are $75/seat, face value. The Rolen family and the people at BRF are working on that now. They'll be sharing that info with us just as soon as every thing comes in and they're able to make sense of it all. Apparently the IDA Family blew them away with generosity and they have a good number of donors to account for.

Money is still coming in. As of now, it is $7,210.00
It is amazing what IDA as done for the children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA-1). We will be posting pictures here showing the families receiving checks.
Brandon, my son, just received his Dynovox (speech computer) the other day and he is learning to use it everyday. It is just a matter of time when he will be able to talk with this machine. He is already able to identify things on it, such as TV, DVD, Car, Horse, etc.. the computer scans the images (about 3 seconds each) and Brandon uses his cheeck to trigger the switch.
We are so happy and blessed. We owe you all so very much.
The IDA family has done so much in such a short amount of time, it is simply AMAZING!
