This auction is for a Full Day guided sturgeon trip for 2 on the St Croix river any time during the sturgeon season which runs from the beginning of September, to the the middle of October. Catches of 10-30 fish a day are common with fish averaging from 24"-48" with occasional fish up to, or exceeding 60".
For many people, targeting these fish often result in a trip of a lifetime. Big, powerful fish that are willing to bite and fight better than any other fish that swims in Minnesota waters. This will also be an excellent learning opportunity on how and where to target Sturgeon without the 8 hour drive to the canadian border!
We will fish until you dont want to fish anymore! I have all top of the line equipment that is always ready to go to battle! All you have to do is bring your own clothing.
This trip has a value of $300
The auction will go until 8:00 pm friday March 9th
All proceeds will go to the Brandon Rolen Foundation
The fish in the picture is IDA's own *Whisker Hooked* with her Contest winning 63" sturgeon last year caught from my boat for the Moores bait contest. She also took 2nd place in the following contest from my boat.
If any of you have ever wanted to go after these fish, this is a great way to do it. It is not very often you can get off your couch, and say "I am going to the Croix and catch a sturgeon!" Dave has a darn good track record hooking people up with these prehistoric critters. Nothing like setting the hook into a fish that would love nothing more than to pull you over the side of the boat and take you waterskiing.

As a matter of fact, the fish in the 1st post did nearly pull her out of the boat when it took her for several laps around the boat! I had to quickly get her and the rod in a panic bear-hug as she was starting to go over the rear corner of the boat with the fish! That fish I will nver forget.. from the bite(1 tap), that beast came shooting out of the water about 30' from the boat before she had a chance to reach for the rod holder.
Here are a few more pictures from last year...
61.5" fish
wastewaterguru with a 48"? fish
Mr Special (Phil) with his 60" fish we helped land
Childhood friend *John* with a couple fish from that day
and..
*James*, another friend the same trip wasnt going to get shown up by John..
and...
Most of these photos were from one trip last fall.
If a picture is worth 1000 words, how much is the chance of tangling with some of these beast worth to benefit a great cause?!
Quote: Nothing like setting the hook into a fish that would love nothing more than to pull you over the side of the boat and take you waterskiing.
We like to refer to this as..."whiskerskiing"!
Dave, isn't the 61.5 the one we watched you land by yourself?
I was nearly in tears watching Dave do the "Sturgeon Dance". Lifting anchors and a rod all the while trying to maintain control of an uncontrolable fish! Although Dave might not have thought it was funny at the time...it was a HOOT!!
Dave put more sturgeon in his boat last year than most did all year.
Imagine your 2007 Christmas cards with a picture of you and a critter like that on the front....well, maybe not But it sure will look nice on the desk at the office!

Yep.. thats the one.. in fact, you and Chappy offered me a hand
I look a bit rough in the picture, but considering the circumstance.. I'm glad I had enough left in me to hold the fish for the picture!
I can tell ya Ive fished with Dave many times last fall and you will definatley have a blast. If you have never caught sturgeon before your first one will feel like the biggest fish you have ever battled...it will turn out to be a little 30 incher. Then you will hook into one that will get your adrenaline going and it may even bring some fear into ya. That is what those 60 inch sturgeon will do. You will be shaking for hours after!
Pretty much every rookie (including me) who caught some of these prehistoric beasts last year have become absolutly obsessed with fishing for them!
Hopefully you will catch the sturgeon bug like we have and experience catching a fish that are as old or older than you.
Tell you what Chris, next one I catch, you can figure out how to weigh it!
I think they are kind of cool.. even a bit intriging(sp?), but I'll be darned if I am going to try to weigh a live eel. They are very strong and very maneuverable out of the water, and have a good set of dentures backed with some nasty bacteria.
I'll drop the next one off in Brian K's bait tank for you, he will call you when its there(in a panic).. you guys figure out how to weigh it.
I caught one with Dave that was another much larger and longer that most definatley was the new state record. unfortunatly Dave really ENFORCES catch and release of EELS!
For those now concerned over the eels.. its a fluke, but its not impossible one could be caught, not likely, but possible. For anyone now nervous because of eels.. no need, they wont be in the boat unless you really want them to be!
This auction ends at 8:00 tomorrow evening.. who out there has $275?
Fish are guaranteed, if for some reason the trip would be unsuccessful, the 2nd trip wont be!
Yes... I had visions in my mind of a 50 pound child with a good grip with the *death grasp* on a fishin pole getting launched out of the boat... then floating around in a life jacket holding a bent over fishing rod resembling a bobber at that point!
I suppose that would be a new way to locate moving fish.. have a boat load of kids floating around out there in life jackets strapped to a fishing rod... you know one has a bite when they're legs are sticking in the air and their head is under water
Ok guys.. bad joke, time to find the morning coffee
My son is 23 and about 180 pounds. I don't think we have to worry about him getting pulled overboard, do we? I don't know, maybe there are some sturgeon that are that big.
