What's the word on the Flicker Shad? I am thinking of long-lining some on Lewis and Clark in Yankton this weekend. Have you guys tried them yet?

I have not tried trolling them yet, I like to cast them even though you can not wing them way out there because they weigh next to nothing

I just picked up some of them at Gander's. They had a pretty good selection of colors, except no Firetiger
At half the price of a Shad Rap I'm a little less concerned about sticking them into the face of a wingdam

Do they run straight? I tend to stay away from frenzy lures due to not being able to tune them. How deep do they run.

I ran a ton of them on Big Stone this year with good results. I would say I maybe had to tweak 1 or 2 out of 10, and those were easily tunable. I liked the rattles in the dirty water. I ran the same color and size Flicker and Rap side by side and the Flicker won.

Wade, I think they work well. They rattle really loud, are a little light to cast but work great long lining or trolling on core. I used them at the Mississippi FLW tournament and did really well on them. The price is excellent and they have a couple great colors

I love the Flickers! I have bought close to 400 of them since they came out last year. I've caught a ton of eyes on them when nothing else would work. I think Scheels sell them for $3 but a few months ago Cabela's had them for $1.99. I've heard that next year you can exspect to pay over $5.00 for them.

Dude! That is a serious amount of baits! Good thing you won some $!
I have been using them a lot due to the price points. I have had to tune quite a few of them. If you are running at 1-1.5 MPH, you may not notice it. But step up the speed, and they blow out one way or the other quite regularly. I imagine it may be due to the weight, and the lack of mass. You are asking a lot out of a bill at 2 MPH+.
I do like the colors.

Chris, are you talking about 1-1.5 into the current? I have been pulling them up to 3MPH on the lake and have to tune a few but for the most part they are pretty good.

Glad to hear they did better on tuning the flicker shads than some of there other products. I tryed trolling a couple of shallow running frenys lures last fall and they did nothing more than spin in circles. Figured any company that would put out that bad of product wasnt worth the time of day. Guess everyone needs to get it right ever now and again.

Mike, I hear 7 to 10 ft. I spoke to a buddy today who said they run a little deeper than the shad rap, making them a little tougher to troll longline in shallower water, unless you want to use boards. I'll be running some of each - shad raps, flicker shad, and wally divers this weekend. I'll post results. Thanks guys!

They will be in the next precision trolling book! Mark Romanack from Precision Trolling has tested the Flicker Shads. He was willing to give up the max depths for these lures.
Flicker Shad 5 150' back 10# mono 9 feet down Flicker Shad 5 150' back 10/4 Fireline 10 feet down
Flicker Shad 7 150' back 10# mono 14 feet down Flicker Shad 7 150' back 10/4 Fireline 15 feet down Be sure to tune them after catching a fish. Even smaller fish can take them out of tune. I still tune more Rapala's out of the box than the flickers. Berkley put a little more work into these lures than some of their others. That's why they come with tripple grip hooks on them already.

Cabela's and Bass Pro have ran them on sale for 1.99 but I believe their regular price at those stores is 2.99. Most other places have them for 3.99. I'd almost bet next year they will be 5.99.

I fished these flickers with Wade before leaving for the BWCA and they outfished the shad raps on that day by a sizable margin.
They haven't proven themselves to me to the point where I can put them in the same class as some of my favorite producers but after one outing they have certainly got my attention.
Anyone else tried them this season?

Out of about 6 lures 2 of them needed to be tuned although only slightly. Once they were tuned properly they stayed tuned even though we were throwing some considerable abuse at them pulling them through some flooded timber.
So far the firetiger and black gold have been the best colors for me. In the #5 size. I did pull some #7's but didn't connect on the larger baits.

We fished them for the wisconsin Opener and they did vary well around Hayward. I had a pike hit one and bent the hook quite a bit. The pike was not big. I did not have anymore trebles with so I just bent it back. After every fish I had to bend the treble thereafter. Was happy with how man fish they produced

Some of the Flickers had triple grip trebles, some of them didn't. I'm not sure why some had them while others had a more "run of the mill" hook on them. Anyone know if all the flickers in the future will have the triple grips?

I am definitely a believer in these lures after this weekend. I had never used them before, but the boater I was paired with had a very good supply. They may have played a huge part in the second place finish we had on Mille Lacs this weekend.

So far, I like what I see from the Flicker Shad. Our largest eye came on a #5 black gold sunrise, on pool 4. They also produced on Lewis and Clark lake, Yankton, SD.
Dean Marshall at Everts on Pool 4 has some at $2.99 right now.

I bought a half dozen last week....seem to work well out of the package but after a few bumps, snags, or fish...it seems I need to do some tuning....and that has been difficult...very sensitive. Thus, a little disappointed.

Just thought I would post my .02$ on flicker shads. My first introduction to them I watched my little bro pull in a 28 and a 30 inch walleye. So convinced at their fish catching ability I searched for them with no luck. My brother eventually found them at scheels on clearance for 1.99$ We bought 25 of them. We tried trolling/casting them to wingdams with excellent results. But, the first cast with one, the crank part broke off and left only the bill attached to the line. Then, less than half will run true. Out of 8 of the firetigers we bought only 3 were worth a crap. I have tried tuning them with out much luck. So for my $ even at 2$ a pop the 5$ wally diver and 6$ shad rap still produce very well without breaking and having to tune. If you get a good one they are walleye slaying cranks, but they are garbage! With my luck that once in a lifetime 30+ walleye will be just about in the net and the fricken thing will break. If they fixed the quality issue I would have a full arsenal of them even if they upped the price, but untill then my $ goes elsewhere.

I hear you about tunning them. Even the ones that do run good out of the box seem to last threw only a fish or 2 before needing tuning. I have been able to get all of them to run straight after tunning. Some may take a minute or 2 of trial and error to get them to work. This can get frustrating but Ill put up with it to catch a fish.
Havent had any loose the bill yet. Just lots of rear hooks.
Anyone seen these on sale lately?

Scheels in Bismarck still has a lot of Flicker Shads @ $1.99 while they last. (701) 255-7255 Ask for Brent or Andrew in the fishing shop, they will ship. The FLW guys bought the heck out of them last week. Different bite window then a Shad Rap in my opinion, they have been really good in rivers and dark water for me.
