Fish Bucks?

What is the deal with these fish bucks in the profiles?

Re: Fish Bucks?

Members earn $.02 fish cents per post. At the moment this can be used towards purchasing classified ads. Other uses will be coming before the year is over with.

WOW, That is a great idea. I think it would be a good idea to use the fish bucks for IDA merchandise also. This is a really great idea to intrigue posting on the site and encourage lurkers to become members. Great Idea in-depth web staff!

Some threads are worth more to reply to. Like threads in the Bass Forums....it'll cost you well over three bucks to post in there.

Just kidding of course.

That is odd. It may have been caused by me? I was working on the script that adds posts to the database. I'm putting in the option for blocking users from earning fish bucks, if needed.

I'll get your bucks restored shortly. Thanks for letting me know.

I'd thought about putting a boat for sale on the classifieds- - BUT- -since you mentioned using Paypal, I'll be holding off. I have issues with Paypal in that they are not firearm/hunter/shooter friendly. I quit doing business with them on Google because of this attitude. I'm glad you brought that up. jerr

I think you should screw the pymt. thing on the classifieds and charge an annual membersship fee, just to be able to post, say $10.00 per year and just get rid of the classified Head Ache. I would be more than willing to pay $10.00 A Year for all of the info and the laughs I get off this site, plus be able to have a free classified add once in awhile, without having to mess with fish bucks and pay pal.

I wish there were more payment handlers out there that are as flexible as paypal. I can't say that I have ever had any problems with paypal but I have heard of others who have. I think things got better after Ebay purchased paypal.

As it is though you don't have to be a member of paypal to use their system to make a purchase. It is only more convenient if you do have a paypal acount.

C'mon jerr! You got plenty to bring to the table. And I know I get way more out of the site than I bring to it.

First of all: I can't post pics because I got a crappy dial-up system that I can't bear to update (that means I'm not paying for it ) Second: I don't get out much compared to a lot of the guys here. And Third: Much of my "knowledge" that I spout here I got here in the last three years. And finally: There are all sorts of topics that come up that I don't have a clue about; but you or somebody else might. Everybody has got a spot at the table. Just some of us are louder than the others........
I think I beat that pretty much to death...

Fish Bucks are somewhat like the Euro except on a larger scale. Fish Bucks are universal. The only problem you may have is convincing the teller to accept them at the checkout. But regardless, we'll always accept them here. LoL

A membership fee charged to post here on the site would kill this site, its traffic and growth as quickly as anything that I could possible think up. MAny sites have tried it. To my knowledge any hunting or fishing site that has tried has been reduced to a shadow of its former self in a couple months.

IF you post here frequently and rack up some fish bucks "buying" an ad with those fish bucks is quick and painless and does not involve paypal in any way.

Try it... I'm pretty sure it will be a painless experience.

Just keep doing what your doing James, if it isn't broke don't fix it. One of the reasons I come here like many others who visit the site is because its free to join and post and look at all the information. The things you do charge for is because you have expenses too to keep this site what it is, things do cost. Not many places of good fishing and hunting information are for free like this site is, i wouldn't change a thing. Its like talking over the fence its so laid back and relaxing.

My opinion is that at least we have been given an option for free ads. Just think how many people would be ticked if there was no way to earn free ads. To me, it says IDA is just trying to keep people from being here only to post a free add w/out contributing to the site. I think overall it will spur more posts.

It depends on the price of the item being sold.

For example...

Any item under $250 will cost $2.99 to list. Listing price increases as the price of the item being sold goes up.

$500 / $4.99,
$1000 / $6.99,
$5000 / $9.99,
$10000 / $14.99,
$20000 / $19.99,
$100000 / $24.99

As much as it sounds great to use fishbucks for free IDA stuff, the fishing bucks were set-up, for a way to control the professional sellers and ebay wannabees from taking over the classfieds section, without ever contributing to the site. I do not believe a cash value to them, is something that I would like to see here. I love the idea to keep the garbage classifieds out. Thanks !

I think the fish bucks are a great idea , i have seen a few people on here before with 30 to 50 post and if you look at there show all users post deal, everyone was in classifieds. why let these guys use this site as there own personal pawn shop. besides it was getting pretty bad when you would go to check out the site, look over on todays topics and all you see was stuff for sale . SO MY opinion is great idea with the bucks

James HolstAdministrator

Re: Fish Bucks?

#545778 - 07/04/07 12:13 AM

Guys that participate regularly get all the free ads they want. Guys that lurk pay. Those that participate infrequently use the fish bucks they've accumulated to buy an ad and pay the difference.

It is as close to a perfect system as anyone could come up with as far as I'm concerned.

To those that feel this site owes them some thing more than they give in return....

you have got to be kiding me whats the point of this site so all you big turny anglers can show off and then shoot us little guys down

and if redneck jr posted my boat for me than he wouldnt have any for himself

I'm pretty sure that when this idea was first proposed, and then methodically formulated to it's inception, that nowhere within the "in-between" did anyone figure out how to specifically mistreat anyone and manifest that discovery to a priority status objective.

If I understand your comments correctly, you want compensation for having your friend do some of your work. Right? Well, I have to ask, how is this IDA's problem? Redneck Jr. has always appeared to be a reasonable fella. If there's something that needs to be worked out between the two of you, by all means-------pursue it. But you can't fault IDA for not investigating the legistics of 10,000+ registraints and their qualifications for possessing credits. The "who-did-what" before hand is beyond their control and should therefore remain uncontestable.

There is also no qualification for accusing IDA of shooting down us little guys. I am not a big tourney angler but I've fished with a decent number of them and I've never seen so much as a hint of degradation from any of them. This question of their integrity is grossly undeserved. In every life, a little rain must fall........ whether it saves the garden or destroys the sand castle. It's nothing more than incidental circumstance.

Sled you ding dong! (I said that with a smile! )

If Chris is posting for you...then he should post your "for sale" item as he's obtain fish bucks that would have been yours!

IDA's goal was and is to reward folks that contribute to the site...if you are a lurker and just read...that's cool...but what if we were all following your example...no info...no humor a dead website....but IDA should reward me fishbucks just because I show up with my hand out?

Start sharing and there'll be nothing to go "against the grain" about and personally I've found that I get back 10x what I put into posting and IDA.

PS Since Chris is a big tourney angler...let me know when he's ripping on your posts...I'll have his dad take away his chicken liver.
