Fisheries management plan for the Chippewa Flowage

#572575 - 09/08/07 12:24 PM

During the past few years, the WI-DNR fisheries management team for the upper Chippewa basin has been meeting with various groups (labeled collectively as stakeholders) to develop lake-specific management plans for the popular fisheres in the basin. The proposed fisheries management plan for the Chippewa Flowage has just been released. It is a good read!

Flowage management plan

Among the proposed changes are (a) increasing the musky size limit to 50" from the current 45", (b) opening the flowage to trolling, and (c) opening the flowage to general ice fishing. THESE ARE PROPOSALS and are not currently in effect so don't go trolling on the flowage next week.

There are other proposals in the plan and a wealth of interesting fish management data. The plan is definitely worth a slow read on an upcoming rainy day!

Interesting read thanks. I dont think many people would have a problem with a 50 inch minimum, and I have never really understood the no trolling thing anyway.

Why aren't you be able to ice fish? Never heard of that one in Wisconsin.....
