Wondering if the ice is getting safe up that way yet? I drilled some holes and fished a couple hours yesterday at Cottonmill in Kearney. Ice was a good 4" and hard. Caught roughly 50-75 crappie, gills, and a 5# LMB. Most were 3-5" gills. Need to get on some better fish for sure!

50-75 fish in a couple of hours, wow
I have not heard of anything going up at Sherman yet. If we can get some of this snow off the ice it will be a little easier to tell what is going on with the ice.

The 8+ inches of snow on the ice at Sherman is going to slow down the making of ice quite a bit. If we could get a week of negative lows we would be in business. I wanted to get up there this weekend to check things out but that is a long ways to go to check the ice if you can't get on it.
Flatwalter or Shermanator - you have any update on conditions up there?

Haven't heard anything good about Sherman. We went to the hills this weekend and found 3" of good ice with 2" of slush and 6" of snow on top of that. Nothing melted on Sunday or Monday where we were.
Maybe the best would be to start over. I haven't seen anything that I would put my quad on yet.
Sorry

Sounds like more snow is on the way this weekend. The wind is supposed to blow with this storm and that should keep the snow from getting any deeper on the ice. It would be nice to start over but we also haven't had very many nights that were below zero yet.

Starting over completely would be great BUT with the temps we have been having lately it is not getting anywhere near warm enough to melt off the ice we currently have. I am with Ben I guess we just hope for some bitter cold days and nights to freeze up the ice and slush we do have really good!

I do know that they are fishing on Swanson with 3"-4" of ice and also on Enders with even a little better ice

Several friends have been to Sherman with no luck whatsoever. Fair ice but no fish. A report out of Dub's Sporting Goods in GI was that they are catching some walleyes in the dam area from 4-8pm.
Hopefully, someone will be able to find the fish that we were not able to find this fall.

Okay boys, now all we have to do is talk Brian into getting his up here and doing some fishing.
Might have to go to the hills again if we can't find any fish at the 'mud hole.' Friends said that the water was still pretty off color.

Hey Jorg, Ya, I might try to make it up there for another trip this year...except this time I'll have a trailer with a couple of wheelers on it, tuned up sharpened up auger, ReelWeeds and all kinds of other stuff, so hopefully the ice gets thick enough, and most importantly, the fish cooperate!

Got mine yesterday Sounds like the wind is supposed to do bad things tomorrow so Sunday looks like the day to go right now. There are also a couple of area farm ponds that may need to get checked out Cyboron, you ever fish "Caspersens" pond or "Trumlers" pond?

Talked to an employee at Cabela's today that said a buddy of his has limited out on Crappie off the dam. He told me they were all 15-18" too! Since when did they start selling WACKY TABACKY at cabela's cause someone is smoking something. I've caught a bunch of nice crappie on that lake but find it hard to believe that someone catches limits of them.
I told him that I had heard the lake was really dirty and he told me that his buddy said it was pretty clear. So who knows unless you go check it out for yourself!

Probably a guy that sells Aqua-Views to people living in Loup City. We came past the lake on Tuesday around noon and there were 5 hardy souls out fishing around the floating wave breaker in the marina cove and a couple of small shacks down 8. It was a virtual blizzard coming down the lake so we just kept on coming home.

What's the ice looking like now and what is the crappie bite like?
We had three of us venture out to old muddy on Monday. We found good ice and easy wheeler travel. There is duck hole of open water straight out from the main point to be aware of.
We fished the island, back on Trail 8 and the wave reducer in the marina bay. With the ice on the lake the water quality has improved to about a foot of visibility; still not an aqua-view moment.
We marked fish in all areas but those on thunder island and trail 8 were jig shy. Anything brought to their face made them turn and run.
The marina bay was the only place where fish were caught and the crappies ran small. The area has been hit very hard. The crappie didn't start to bite until 4:30 and then it was spotty at best.
Probably will need a better report to return.

Thanks for the udate Jorg. Not what I was hoping to hear. I'll give it a few more weeks. Some friends were up there over the weekend and caught 2 - 8 in. eyes and that was it. I think gas prices are going to keep me closer to home for a while until the bite picks up.

Nope, just a place to drop a line and get a fishing fix. I do not know if they are stunted or what the deal is with the lake. But it seems that they are the same size every time we fish it.

When they let the first water in the fish seem to be good size. I have no idea where they go from there

Is little Sherman the lake about 6 miles north of Boelus? If so we fished there once. I don't think we caught anything. We lived 3 miles south of there and 1 mile east. My parents best friends owned the farm on the east side of the lake so we spent time there, but not at the lake itself.

I know that we go past two Cyboron farms when we take Wasau Road North out of Boelus. Thought that that had to be where you were from originally.
