The 2008 Lake Wissota Fishing League has a new home: In-Depth Outdoors!
The IDO-Lake Wissota fishing league is a multi-species league that fishes most Tuesday evenings during the summer months. We generally start at 6 and fish until dusk, with closing times determined on a weekly basis. Walleyes and smallies are the primary targets for most anglers, but all of Wissota's bounty, including muskies and pike, LMB, panfish and cats, find their way to league participants' scorecards.
As the spring and summer progresses, IDO will be the home to our league. Information about league organization and schedules will be posted shortly, and weekly stats will be presented so you can keep up with your favorite IDO-Lake Wissota league anglers.
We have a bunch of great new activities planned for the league in 2008. A youth division will be added so guys can enjoy some boat time with their kids. A dedicated kids night, in partnership with regional youth organizations, is another new addition. Our point structure will be modified somewhat to reward the guys who go out of their way to swing for the fences with a big 'lunge. But the basic principles of fishing fun and camaraderie will remain unchanged!
We have room in our league for new anglers....please consider adding the IDO-Lake Wissota fishing league to your summer angling agenda!
This is great news!! I was planning on jumping into this league this year, but to be part of IDO is even more incentive. I think this years league may be very interesting. Keep us informed with any new info you come up with!

Moving to the Rod and Gun Club facility was a natural choice for us. They have the best launch and parking facility on the lake. They are a local group that supports area-wide conservation projects. And holding our events there, rather than a bar, will make the league more family friendly. All of those are positives for our league.
You hit it right on the head Jason!! I know you have to pay to launch, but if you get a yearly pass it is very cost effective. I do not mind paying to launch when they take care of the place like they have the last couple years!! Thanks again for all the info!!

I should have mentioned...the Rod and Gun club will be offering a discount on the yearly pass for league members if they buy their pass at the rules meeting. I think it will be $20 or very close.
If you think about spreading that cost over the 10+ league nights, we're looking at less than $2 per night....pretty cheap for the best facility on the lake!
Awesome news Jason....Shame I'll be moving back to Durand. Although I think I may try to fish everyother Tuesday I have off....Can't wait for the details.
Steve, the league runs with 2 anglers per boat. Generally, the same two guys fish together all summer, but that need not be the case. It is an individual competition, meaning that while I may have a "partner" in the boat, we are competing against each other (and all other league members).
Last summer, I fished with Jason Sullivan in the league. We worked together to pattern fish, put a game plan together for the night's fishing, and helped each other in every way possible. But at the end of the night, we had separate point totals and different individual results.
If you don't have a partner but are interested in fishing in the league, you can either find someone to fish with at our rules meeting, or I can put you in touch with another league angler looking for a partner. I have someone in mind who has fished with me on guide trips several times, is an avid Wissota angler, and is looking for a partner for league 2008.
Jason since I work in Chippewa every day it would be fun to fish the league. Just wondering about the boater non boater because it would be a lot easier to not trailer over every week form my place between Durand and Downsville. I'm sure others were wondering also. Yep I would like to fish the league. I can check and see if some more folks would also like to here from work. Steve
Quote: I have a question- how does it work if you miss a week or two because of vacation etc. Is it average points or overall points?
Bill, in the past it's been a cumulative total of points. If you missed a week, you were allowed to find a substitute to fish on your behalf.
Initial discussions are leading towards a new system. The revised system would allow you to omit a set number of weeks. So if you fished every week, you could drop the weeks you performed poorly and score your best weeks. If you had to miss a week due to other commitments you could use that as a week to drop. We have not come up with the magic number of how many weeks you can drop.

Hello everyone
This should answer some ? I hope I am not talking out of turn here.
At the last meeting we decided on a tenitive schedule for 2008 it would go as follows
We would start on May 6th, and fish thru June 17th, on June 24, it would be a youth night, where every member could bring there own boat and fish with a youth for the night, this would be a non points night with prizes for the youth. This would be like the first half of the season, we will skip the week before and after the 4th of July because a lot of families go an vacation and to give a season brake, so we will skip July 1st, and July 8th. On July 15th, we would start again and run thru Aug. 17th, with the Banquet on Aug 26th, and we would be done before Labor day and before the Kids go back to school Because we are hoping to have a large youth class for the 15YOA and under group.( Father, son or adult, Youth combo)( Please for safety it would be nice to have the under 15YOA with a adult thank you) so this will give us 13 point weeks of fishing with one fun night of witch we would probably only score 10 or 11 weeks to allow for family vacations other than the 4th of July weeks, if you fish all 13 weeks, you would drop 2 or 3 of your lowest scores. Or we might do the NASCAR thing and have a chase sort of deal where you would score 8 of the first 10 weeks then have a fish off the last 3 ( we are still talking)
That got long winded
Steve, I would think that there would be someone local that would be able to supply the boat you may just want to help out with fuel and Maintained.
I hope this helps and hope I am not out of turn here :wave

I'll add just one additional item to the schedule:
We generally have a mandatory sign-up/rules meeting on the Tuesday prior to the start of league competition. We'll post the date and location of that meeting soon. It will be at this meeting that annual dues will be collected and a launch pass can be purchased if guys want to use the Rod and Gun club facilities for launching (I know I will).
I really like the idea of throwing out weeks, because if you plan on being competitive, you couldn't take a vacation before. Sully, and Jason if you guys need any help, let me know, as I am leaning towards re-joining this year.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to Chris Powell!
I hope you join us often.
For those that don’t know, Chris is one of the resident multi-species guides in the Chippewa Valley. He is the only local guide I’m aware of that offers ice fishing trips.
For the record, I take exception to the Fat Guy moniker. Chris, guys like you and I are just “well fed”.

Any more info on the league or when the meeting will take place. Sounds like a fun time. Any of you guys available to fish the ARM event on Menomin this year? Lunch will be served and we will have some local beverages for after the event again. Steve
