I found some open water today.

I grabbed a jigging rod out of the garage today and headed out to some open water I seen earlier in the week. I didn't have a lot of time but have been dying to fish some open water. I sure was glad I went. I took along a handful of 1/16 oz. jigs and some small twister tails. The fish that were gathered in this small pool were very hungry. I had a good strike on my first cast but the fish only had the plastic in his mouth. It only took a couple more casts to connect with my first walleye for the year. It was a scrappy little guy that maybe went 14 to 15 inches. My wife snapped a quick pic with my cell phone and this little guy was released. I had several more short strikes and did manage to land one more small eye. I spent about 30 minutes out there today and I'm looking forward to hitting a few similar spots around the Lincoln area over the next couple of weeks. I'm guessing that we'll be launching boats around Lincoln by March 8th.

Gotta hand it to you, Ben. It seems like you're fishing even when you're driving down the road. That's a good start to the year!

Good stuff Ben! I saw on the way back from SD yesterday that it looks like there'll be open water around here very shortly.
