I picked this keeper up on Thursday at LaSalle Lake. My only fish of the day, hit a baby bass deep diving crankbiat on the east bank. Went 19" and had quite a belly on it!

Where is LaSalle Lake?

We think so, Steve. They close it down for the winter. Just opened back up on March 15th. It used to be open year round a long time ago. Get's kinda foggy out there though.
Most of the smaller lakes and ponds in the area are wide open now. One of the few benefits of living down here.

First (and only so far) LMB of the year. Caught of a wind blown rock jetty using a shad colored Rapala FatBoy DT3 sureset...didn't measure her real close...went somewhere about 16 inches. Biggest belly on a bass I've seen in a long time. Water temps were high 40's...(caught in Northern Kansas)...
First decent fish of 08. This is the first year I regret leaving the walleyes. It’s been a struggle on the bass side. This fish is 18 inches but supper thick.
I thought I'd share a couple pictures of some bass I caught at a tournament on Table Rock Lake over the weekend. The spotted bass were really chunky. They looked like they had swallowed a softball. I hope to get a fishing report up this week.
here are a couple i caught middle of last week. the big one was almost 20 inches, close to 5 im guessing, the picture dosent show her girth at all. the other one was 3.5 or so maybe a lil bigger. i cleveraly had to hide where i was fishing......
well i sure think this is the trend for me so far...the two tournys ive fished this year, ive come up short but not by much, last week a day after the tourny, 2 4+lbers, the monday after a tourny this weekend, 2 4+lbers. i guess i cant complain but WHERE ARE THEY WHEN YA NEED EM! one smallie taped out a a lil over 20 inches, the other a little under 21 inches. flat bellies, would of probably been close to 5lbs otherwise. o ya, 3 casts apart, 5 feet apart on the bank
here are some nice ones from the last week. in a weeks time i had 7 fish over 4lbs. the bite was incredible. here are a couple of them. the other pictures show where i was... so they dont get posted they were biting so good my girlfriend even caught a big one!
I hate trebble hooks for that reason, they're a real B to get out when the fish inhale them. Its tough to give up a $10 rap with gas prices this high! Each fish seemed to have some life in them but I know what your saying for sure.
a lot of muskie guys carry side cutters for just that very reason...hooks are a heck of a lot cheaper than lures...and it's not uncommon that the surgery to remove hooks is worse than the hooking to begin with...
?Sidecutters?
On the other hand, sometimes a fish will bleed...but it does tend to clot quickly when in the water...as long as too much damage isn't done to the gills...or a gill arch isn't torn out...there's always a chance...
Forgot to mention that all the bass were between 12" and 22". The biggest were 18", 19" & 22". Also, none were hooked deep today which was a great thing. The ones from the first set of photos all seemed to swim off and not be too badly injured. If I thought they were going to die they'd be in my freezer right now. Good luck to everyone, I think tonight I'm going to try to get some pics on the catfish page tonight!
Had a couple of good Smallmouth days last week with friend Randy. These fish were 18 inches to 19 5/8 inches. Check the girth on the belly shot. Awesome. Jack..
