I don't know about the raptor, but I use to have a banshee. I put a new top end in mine but also ran it really hard. I like that they are not a complicated machine. just make sure everything stays greased. With the banshee at least be careful in the winter. Make sure you run different jets or you will blow the motor. I got lazy one year and ripped around on the lake before doing so. hence the new top end. Had mine up to 94 mph! That motor was basically stock.

YFZ450!!! If you want something more reliable than a 4-stroke is the way to go. I raced 250R's awhile ago and haven't raced in years but my brother bought a YFZ and let me tell you it's night and day from a 2-stroke. And with a little bit of after market mods you will have a rocket fast machine!

Between the two quads you mentioned all you have to do is decide if you want a straight line rocket or a machine with usable suspension. I love the Banshee but their suspension always left a lot to be desired.
As some others mentioned the new sport class 450's are very potent. If I were buying one today and wanted speed and awesome suspension I'd look no further than the Polaris Outlaw. The 500 is awesome, the 525 is the fastest accelerating production ATV made. If you have a touch more cash, get the KTM 525. Pure performance so be prepared to hang on!

The new Raptor's are 700's with fuel injection. Between that and a Yamaha 450 YFZ, you couldn't go wrong. If I remember correctly the Raptor has reverse, which to me is a huge bonus. I would also think that a Raptor 700 would take a Banshee stock vs stock.

If I owned either, I probably wouldn't be alive.
My neighbor has the Raptor 660 and he loves it. He does a lot of trail riding and messing around out on the street. I've ridden it a few times, but I'm still too scared to get carried away.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, i am going to be riding in a lot of sand pits and ditches, not much mud or snow. how do you think the suspension an the bashee would be in a pit or jumpin drive ways and so on?

The Banshee's suspension is probably a little outdated compared to the Raptor's. Still jumpable, but not as good as the Raptor or 450 YFZ.
