I was there on Thursday and the ramps were not open. The ice did not look thick and probably could have been broken out. We did that in Canada one year; real thrill.
The ramp was open on Davis Creek and one boat was out catching small crappies and whites in 30 fow.

All depends on what you want to fish for. Sherman at this time is real muddy from the bank, as you know. If you want to do some cat fishing head down to the cabins area with some dead bait and make some long cast and sit back and wait. It's still a long, long cast from the docks to the water, so bring some mud boots and rod holders.
Ice out is also a great time to try for big northerns up in trail 3. Big bobbers and smelt have produced some hawgs in the past. Cotton Cordel's Redfins have produced some big fish in the past and I'm certain other large stick baits would work just as well. I would think that the end of trail 6-8 would also hold some of those big fish that are out feeding on the winter killed shad.
It won't be long before the walleyes start staging for their spawning run to the dam. I have no idea what the new rock jetties will do to this annual happening. It is actually pretty hard to reach any deep water at Sherman from the bank.
You might try the dam on some warm days for some crappie. They seem to show up early; but never in great numbers.
