Giving rides?

#650132 - 03/18/08 04:23 PM

Looked through the MN regs.... and maybe I overlooked it, but could not find anything. Is it legal in MN to have a rider on the back of your ATV? My daughter is constantly asking to ride on the back. Am considering one of those Tamarak seats that go on the back rack. Anyone know if it would be illegal? Mainly looking to do some ditch riding during the open months... and trail riding during the summer.

Nevermind... I found it. Class 1 ATV... Driver over 18 can carry 1 passenger.

Don't quote me on this, but I was always under the impression that it had to be a two-up seat to have a second rider. I will have to take a look.

Just saw your second post, could have saved some time.

So it is, you can have a passenger. One of the many new rules.

actually it depends on the type of machine, I have a polaris 500 and the symbol and the book says they recommend no riders, we still do it but you can not hold the company liable because you broke the restriction. 2 ups are fine and do not cost that much more. also if she is young she needs a helmit and recommend she rides in front of you.

She would need a helmet... and I would require one anyway even if the regs say different. I am actually looking at purchasing one of those Tamarack Titan Deluxe seats/storage for the back rack. I want to make sure that it is securely attached to the wheeler first...

The law states one passenger, it doesn't say that if your atv has a no passenger sticker on it you can't have a rider.

I think Chico was specifically refering to the liability of the manufacturer if there is an injury to a passenger on the machine... not the law. The law clearly states you can have 1 passenger on Class 1 ATVs as long as the driver is 18 or older... and passengers younger than 18 require a helmet.

I wasn't sure what he was reffering to, so I thought that I would throw that in.
