Has anyone been fishing the Whitewater since trout opener last weekend? I’m thinking of heading down this weekend and I’m wondering how the fishing is. Not sure how all the flooding last summer has affected the fishing and the stream. I usually do not fish on weekends for the 1st 3 weeks or so, but I really want to strech a line. Thanks in advance for you response.

If I remember correctly the Whitewater area was hit very hard by the floods last summer. I'd definetly wait for a report from someone before you make the trip down. Good luck if you make the trip.

Haven't been down there yet since opener but should be good actually the flood may have helped clearing some of the gunk off the bottom. Was high and brown for opener so we didn't go but i am sure there were a couple hundred lined up. Go for hopefully get out there this weekend too!

last I read on the dnr site the whitewater area was closed due to severe damage to roads and streams. You should check the dnr site for info on the area you are planning to fish

I was down last weekend, the Whitewater was too high and dirty for my liking, so I didnt fish it. Some of the other rivers locally were not as bad and I managed a few. Fishing was tough in general, but there was a lot of runoff going on. With the weather this week, I'd guess it'd be worth the trip.

Fellas,
The skinny on WW is this. The SBWW and Middle Branches (near the park) suffered some pretty severe damage. On the SBWW, the campgrounds were wiped out and many areas changed dramatically. The stream literally lifted itself up and moved from place to place, flattening many areas, and carrying a whole lot of debris as well.
That said, the fish are STILL THERE. Sure, it wasn't overly clean last weekend (you had to hike and get up into the headwater reaches to find fishable water), but there are still trout in the Whitewater, the roads are open, but the park proper isn't open for camping yet. The other private campgrounds, however, are open.

the bite got better as the week went on had some rain so some streams are still staind up....found the spinner bite to be alright with best luck on crawlers and waterworms though while fishing in streams where bait is still allowed. Also a heads up for the stream "artifcial only" the Gulp nightcrawlers work very nice as well! Made for a nice grilled trout diner that is for sure
