Hayward Lakes ice-out thread

#668443 - 04/29/08 01:35 PM

I'll get it started....

Spider locked up tight as of Monday April 28. Open water around the edges but iced up otherwise.

Lost Land still crunchy (at least in Landing Camp bay...I didn't go towards the south end).

Should make for an interesting opener this weekend.

I talked to Donna at Earl's Marine and she said LCO and Grindstone still have a lot of ice. She said they have a place on LCO and the wind was piling the ice up in their yard.

Guys:

The Hayward area lakes usually open before ours as it always seems to be a little warmer. Our mid & big lakes will be ice fished if they are to be fished at all. I am skeptical of anything bigger than 1000 acres being open this weekend. Its been since '95 since we ice fished the opener. I for one am going to find a nice WI river fishery just to the south of us that has been open and hope the throngs of people wanting to fish one of the newly opened lakes go elsewhere. Good luck to ya!!!

I think we have all of our lakes open and while there may still some ice floating, everything is accessible except the three biggies: Trout, Fence & Tomahawk. SteveO the TFF opened up yesterday as well. Gettin' out here on the Manitowish Chain in a couple of hours. Usually go at Midnight, but it was raining and when I got up this a.m. at 6:30 it was snowing. Pulled out the local card and said go back to bed!!! Let you know how we did later.

SteveO:

Check out the report I threw up on Gursky's Northwoods fishing reports thread. The big lakes are starting to heat up. I will be in Boca Grande chasing tarpon this year while you are up. Maybe the next time...
