Lake Trout

#671967 - 05/07/08 12:43 PM

We are heading to LOTW the first week in June for walleye. However, I have never fished for Lake Trout and would like to try it one day. I never hear anyone talk about them in LOTW. Is there a good population there? Could I use regular walleye tackle, or would I be way undergunned? What kind of bait is used for lakers? Thanks for any help.

Is anybody else gonna be up there the first week in June?

Check out this report from this past winter. Scott and I got into some incredible lakers on Lake of the Woods near Sioux Narrows.

For smaller fish your walleye gear with 6 - 8 lb test line will get the job done. If you tie into one of the big ones... you'll have a fight on your hands. I would suggest some heavier bass or light pike gear if you're in an area that gives up big fish.

If you're fishing the US side, there would be very limited, if any, lake trout fishing opportunity.

All of our trout came from Ontario waters.
