Lewis and Clark

#676193 - 05/20/08 05:11 PM

Hi, I'm new to the forum and was looking for some info on Lewis and Clark. I will be fishing there from June 9-13 and was wondering what to expect for walleye/sauger fishing, catfishing, and maybe panfish. I think we will be staying near Wygone. And help would be great.

I will be up there this weekend, I will let you know what I find. My guess is that the fish are in the shallow flats on the west end.

Jason,
I've talked to about 5 different guys that are hammering fish on mid-lake humps VERY shallow. Trolling cranks.

Thanks for the info, I was hoping to troll mostly, so that's good news. Do you catch many pike up there?? Also is there a lot of trouble as far as shallow water, stumps, rocks, etc?

I don't fish the lake all that often, but I don't believe there are many problems. I know there are pike there, but I don't know how plentiful they are or where to target them.
Sorry, I'm not much help. Good luck.

In all my life, I've caught only 1 pike on L&C Lake. Granted I don't target them.

The further west you go, there are a few stumps. Very few, but there have been a few boats over the years that barely made it back to shore.

Just make sure if you are head towards the mouth of the river, you hug the s.d side. (and don't follow me, I draw less water than a Sylvin, right Mike?)

It just so happens that I might know where a few shallow humps are up there. God knows I had enough practice trolling shallow water last weekend

The stumps are mainly on the Nebraska side west of Miller's creek though there are a few out there in the middle.

You'll probably want to head west and find the Hooterite Colony on the North Shore approximately across from Miller's. That area can be very good as can any muddy point the entire length of the lake, the area in front of Weigand, etc. There is actually a Gavin's Point point on the north side that if the south wind is blowing in on can also be hot in June.

To find the islands to the west go west past the colony about 1/2 mile, there's a small cove. At the west corner of the cove look to the SW. On the Nebraska Bluffs there are two "Twin Hills". Approximately in the middle there are some humps out there that will be much shallower than the surrounding water.

A great way to catch these fish in on planer boards with shad raps, wally divers, 2 3/8 Static Shad's and deep diving thundersticks on pretty shortlines. I hear the water is very low, they may even be visible.

Another great catfishing spot is just north of the Nebraska side mouth of the Missouri coming out of the marsh. I'm not sure what it looks like now with the islands being built but in the evenings just outside the reeds the cats and walleye can really be on the prowl in 1-2' of water - be careful if you get in that and watch your water rising and falling.

Thanks for the great info everyone. I'm taking three guys that don't fish very much and would love to put them on some fish. If anyone has any reports between now and then please post and I'll make sure to do the same. I can't seem to find a lake map, any suggestions? Can't wait for the trip!

I have a fantastic fishing report from Monday when I get a chance. Lets just say, it was one of the best bites I have had on that lake in a looooonng time. Even better than last October.
