Be careful on the river

#679907 - 06/02/08 01:10 PM

The river is WAAAAAYYYYY down right now and there are a lot of places where you used to be able to run wide open in 4' of water that are now covered by 3-4". I saw five boats completed beached this weekend from running up on sandbars. One guy went over his windshield and got beat up a little.

Ouch! The river can make a guy nervous, and for good reason.

What part of the river was this happeneing? Below Gavins?

Wade,
It was up by Verdel. If you're fishing the tourney this weekend, I'd recommend running the river before hand. All the boats I saw get hung up were bass boats running in what is normally shallow water that is now 3-4" deep.

Should have been lots of bass boats pre-fiahing last weekend with the FLW Divisional scheduled for this week but I heard they moved it to Francis Case because of low water on the river. Next up is the B.A.S.S Divisional Tournament 6/22,27/08. I'll be get'n stuck prefish'n that one soon. Here's hope'n they run a little more water in the next 3 weeks.

I wouldn't bet on that happening anytime soon. They are holding water because of the flooding down here. From what I am seeing outside, that problem is getting worse by the minute.

All this rain wont help but I think the birds have priority over any human getting flooded out. Right now they are nesting and we wouldn't want any of them to lose and egg......

I won't get into my beliefs on that issue here

I remember fishing the river up at Sunshine Bottom one time. There were a group of pelicans that had camped out on the same sandbar all day. We kept floating down river and then going back up and it did not disturb the birds one little bit. We went in for a bite at the cabin and when we headed back up the river, I almost launched my brother over the bow....................the pelicans moved. Never trust a bird................especially one that fishes.

I think that we need to tilt the state of NE a little so some of this water that is flooding the Platte could run into the western reservoirs.
