The SRCL fishery is starting to produce some trophy smallmouth fishing. I witnessed an easy 5 lbr shake loose this past weekend, please release all Smallmouth you catch. Most abide by this, but I witnessed a nice 3 lb fish thrown in a basket

I caught and released 3 SMBass that went 18-19" last week fishing for walleyes. There are some really nice ones to be had if only they would get released.
I also witnessed a pontoon bobber fishing and keeping everything they would catch. I saw them keeping SMbass, LMBass, walleyes, pike and even catfish. There are truely some bad meat hogs out there, if it swims they will kill and eat it.

Do bass even taste good? I have always been under the impression that they were extremely 'fishy' tasting..

They are members of the sunfish family, so if you've had sunfish, then... Walleye is the only fish I eat and that's just a few times a year on special occasions...I always say, if you want food, go to a grocery store..Besides, I don't think eating allot of fish is good for you, they all have some mercury in them...

Today I decided to try Horseshoe, as I didn't get a chance yesterday. I found a few nice SM Bass on some mid lake humps and on some shoreline structure. They were hitting a jig/gulp minnow combo dragged very slowly. All fish including this nice 17 incher were released!
