I'm hoping someone can give me some help with my new LCX-27c. In shallow, soft bottom, my sonar constantly looses the bottom and sometimes locks up. I've tried the suggestions from Lowrance tech support including a hard reset of the unit but it doesn't seem to help. This unit is only a month old. The sonar works great on hard bottom. Any suggestions?
Yes, I'm running 2.3.0 It works perfectly on hard bottom but as soon as I move in to the mud it flashes the depth and occasionally locks up. I haven't had a chance to try it in deeper water (over 15 feet) yet but I'll find out later this summer on Lake of the Woods how it performs at depths over 20 feet with soft bottom. I've read a few forums on the net and it seems like a common problem. It's to bad there isn't an option to decrease power in this type of condition maybe that would help. The transducer placement looks okay to me but I have noticed that the first few times I used the unit I never lost the bottom even at high speed. Now I'm losing bottom readings at speeds over 30mph. Could just a slight difference in the original angle of the transducer be causing the problem?
I had a similar problem with my brand new X-27C. A new transducer is what it took to cure the problem for me. Lowrance took care of it at no cost to me Cudo's to them for the excellent service!
I am also having the same issue with my lcx 27 as well. Mine will go blank too. The update to 2.3 or switching transducer's did nothing for mine. I will talk to Lowrance and see what need's to be done.
I am having the same problem. Just got mine set up two weeks ago. I will be replacing the transducer this weekend and hopefully that will fix it. I will post if it does.
It's looking like a transducer problem for me. Does anyone know if you have to send Lowrance the entire unit or will they just replace the transducer? This unit is under warranty.
I got out on the lake last night and the new transducer has taken care of the problem. Didn't loose bottom once and I made sure to check it out in the shallow water where I was really having problems before. I couldn't see anything wrong with the old one when I took it off but obviously there was a problem with it. Thanks to all who responded with advice on this issue.
We just updated two units to 2.3 for the same problem. I should hear shortly if that did the trick.
A point of mention...Why aren't units sitting on major retailer's shelves being updated? My uncle and his cousin bought two units, and both had old software rev. levels. The Lowrance tech told my uncle on the phone "Well, you shouldn't be running it in "Auto" mode!" I thought ? Many people do not run high ping rates or manual sensitivity levels like tournament fishermen or guides. My uncle thought that was a pretty condescending remark.
MIne is at Lowrance right now getting fixed. They say that the processor was not responding correctly. So I will waite and post the results when it gets back.

It wouldn't be practical for a retailer to take a packaged unit out of the box, plug it in to install an update, and then repackage it.
In some cases, such as an LMS-520c, they would have had to update the unit 4 or 5 times to keep their inventory up to date with the lastest software revisions.
Why couldn't they update the sotware after unit is sold, before it leaves the door? I am very upset that I spend $950 and then had to fool around updating it myself because it didn't work properly out of the box! Not to point fingers but your comment about who is going to pay for it really shows the theology of many U.S manufacturing companies, do what is cheaper for the company and then let the customer deal with it. They will keep buying our product. We all know how that mentality is working!
I consider it a good thing when I can improve on something without having to buy a different unit.
What if Lowrance didn't offer the updates and just let
you live with the glitches in their software? Would you
be happier if the updates didn't exist?
I sure the heck wouldn't.
I purchased a Broadband Sounder this spring and they included the 2.3 update (which adds BBS support) on a 256mb
SD. This tells me that when an update is mandatory to
use an add-on they will include it. I'm sure it was built
into the cost of the unit but at least they thought ahead
and included it. I had already updated to the 2.3.
It's optional to update your Lowrance with new features and accessory support.
Lowrance is not alone when it comes to product updates.
I can't comment on the "theology" of U.S manufacturers. The religious studies of a company are not a prerequisite as to whether or not I do business with them.

What do you mean exactly by "going blank"? I have a x28 that loses all the signal detail coming back periodically. I'm not losing the bottom signal like many others have had problems with. The depth is correct and doesn't flash, but there is nothing on the screen unless I crank the gain all the way up, and even then it's not showing everything it should. Worked great for about a year with the old and new firmware which was installed last month. This problem comes and goes and isn't constant. Doesn't matter what depth of water. It appears to have reduced power to the transducer or something once in a while, but seems to be happening more often than not.
Dear Sirs, I have also problem with LCX-27c on shallow water. I'm update my LCX-27c on new frimware but problem still exist. Please help me if you have some solution, or we must waiting new firmware. Plese send me answer on my mail vinko.marenzi@si.htnet.hr Thank You ! Best wishes from Croatia-Europe
I have recently heard that there is a 2.4 version for the
LMS-522 and would assume it also will apply to the LCX
series. You may want to call Lowrance and have them e-mail it to you as it is not yet available on their website.
Dandrom thank You for answer! I'm really disappointed, my LCX-27c look like intermediate goods. I have my old Lowrance X-70A almost 16 years and he still working good. But new is new and 1000$ is too much for defective equipment. I will send the mail to Lowrance and try to find answer. Bye !
Same problem with my LCX-27C. Lowrance sent a new transducer and that still did not cure the flashing depth in 10 ft or less water. I went into the sonar features menu and selected Shallow Water. It was currently set to General Use. Seems to have cured my problem, but I have only been out a few times. Lowrance had a bulletin out that stated "Use Shallow Water Setting" in 100 ft or less of water. Anyone else try this fix ?
