Lake Zumbro Panfishing
Fresh air, warm temps, family, friends, and fish are all wrapped up into one nice neat package when you are on Lake Zumbro in SE MN. Sound too good to be true? Well its not. Come on out and play your favorite sport - FISHIN.
Mckenzie fished her first tournament in the Rochester Angler Tournament on Lake Zumbro in the later part of May. I would cast the Mini-mite jig out into the water where I knew fish were and help her hold the rod because she was using one of mine and she would crank the reel to bring the jig back to the boat. And when a fish grabbed it boy was she excited. She sure loved that tug on the end of the line. She loved it so much that when I stopped over to her place last she asked me if I had come over to take her fishin. Now thats a gal after my own heart.
We were fishing for crappies and bluegills and they were hitting the Mini-mite jigs pretty good. The fish were fairly shallow and casting to shore [up tight] and then beginning to crank it back slowly worked best. Offering them different colors thoughout the morning kept them biting.
The day was filled with alot of fun along with a few minor setbacks that we didn't let ruin the day. I had trolling motor problems the first half of the morning and someone got so wrapped up in his grandaughter catching fish that I never paid attention to my watch and guess who missed the noon weigh in? I'm sure glad that she didn't realize it as she had alot of fun and thats what fishing is all about. Next time you are looking for someone to take fishing consider a child, grandchild or neighbors child. Its lots of fun and you will be glad you did.

Sounds like a good day to me. The panfish are really going good up here in the cities. I caught around 50 this morning, all in the 6" to 9" range. Largemouth have been biting great too. Way to go on getting the little one started at such an early age, that's the way it should be!

Thanks Ryan. Shes 2 1/2 years old and she fell in love with fishing and boats last year at 1 1/2 years old. She was up at Mille Lacs with her mom and other grandpa last weekend. She just loves the dock perch fishing up there in the fall.

i can't wait to get my oldest out next year in the boat cause i can't find a life jackt for a kid that is under 30lbs and ideas bill i wanna get him in the boat cause i know he would love it and maybe ice fishing with him this year we will see what mom says

the fiancees grandma stoped over with a whole bunch of clothes and a life jacket for him  i may see if dad will let me borrow the boat this weekend for a few hours and take him for a ride and maybe his first fishing outing

Nate and Jessie will have alittle boy joining the family come the end of July so it won't be long [time/years go by fast] and I'll have her and her little brother in the boat having fun fishing. She has a love affair with bobbers but this day she she enjoyed a day of casting and cranking in the Mini-mite jig from HOF. Yep, another fisherperson hooked on Mini-mites.  And no wonder, they catch alot of fish.
