Waconia Bass have been cooperating for the last week. Another IDO'er and myself had a good Saturday morning (5/31) with 30 fish landed and 4 lost. The first 29 and the 4 lost came in the first 3 hours of fishing. Minimum size was 14" and the largest was 17". The average though was close to 15-16". For fun we kept track of our 8 largest and we put together a bag of fish that weighed 19-2 or so according to the Berkely handheld scale. When the sun burned the clouds off and got high in the sky the bite really slowed. Look for emergent weed growth and fish the edge.
It's a good day when you come home with "bass thumb" from lipping so many fish.

I was out on Riley in Eden Prarie yesterday and it was the same way. I started crushing them around 630am and kept getting them until I left at 1130. I'd say at about 9 the bite really slowed down though.

Quick correction, I think he meant submerged weed growth. I was the one out with him, and it was a great morning for sure. I can easily say though, that was the worst bass thumb I've ever had, but who really complains about that when its 30 good fish in the boat causing it. Hurt for 2 days straight! Great report though. I'll be curious to see how long this pattern holds up w/ the rough weather and warmer waters to come soon hopefully.
Anyone have a good suggestion on the best way to check a digital scale without having another scale handy to compare it to? The last fish we caught was probably 17-18" but real fat, and it was still under 3lbs on the scale which surprised us both. Just wanting to make sure it works correctly.

Correct, I meant to say "EMERGING" weeds. As in new weed growth, specifically cabbage. If you look for emergent weed growth, as in above the surface, it's going to be a tough find. The reeds are showing just a little sign of life.

What does you scale go to for max weight. Depending on what this amount is whill depend on how accurate the reading will be. If you scale has a max weight of say 10#, then any weight under this amount will weigh closer to actuals then say a scale that has a max weight of 40#.
I would expect this pattern to stay going for another week. The only change would be that you might need to fish a bit slower to get these bigger fish to go. nice report!

Hey, I was out this Sunday and absolutely HAMMERED the bass. . . me and a buddy hit the water about 7am. . .had atleast a fish on with in every 5 minutes up till about 11:30am. ALL of the fish we caught were over 2 lbs and had three pushing 5lbs. Together we atleast had over 75 bass. I couldn't have asked for a better day on the water, the sun was out, fish were demolishing our baits. (nothing over 3' of water) The thumb is still raw today from it, man i love that!

Nice! We were hoping to get one of those Waconia Toads in the boat, but it just didn't happen for us.
On a side note one nice Muskie spotted. I may be paying him a visit on Saturday.

Was this on Waconia that you hit the 75 bass that morning? Thats an even more incredible morning though either way. Surprised to hear you're catching the big ones that shallow right now. Quite impressive nonetheless.

Yah, waconia sunday morning. . .one thing to keep in mind, we didnt catch one "over" 2lbs after 11AM. My girlfriends dad was in another boat on Sunday and they said that they saw 3 muskies all in real shallow (N & S end as well) Yah, definetly one of my personal best bass days overall. I had 12 in the boat before the other guy had any at all. then he switched over and was right on track with me.

Not sure what "normal" means, but I think the weed growth was behind due to the cool spring and long snow covered winter ice. The weeds have really jumped up in the last two weeks though. The cabbage is going good, milfoil I saw didn't look too healthy yet and the reeds are in their infancy. Hope that helps.
Water temps were 62.5-63 out in the lake and 65-66 in the sandy shallows.
Went up shallow in the sand and watched schools of sheep's head swimming around, "Waconia Bonefish"

I was out from 6-11 yesterday and we ended up getting about ten bass. we caught some fish deep of some reefs (15'feet), shallow off docks, and in the middle (in the weeds 8'). nothing that i would call a pattern. the majority of the fish came on dropshot with a 4' stick worm. The largest bass was 17 with the other falling in the cookie cutter 15'-16s. it was a tough day out there, we really thought we would have gotten more. water temps where around 73. the water was very clear and it appears the algea bloom is going to happen soon.
good luck
