For many years now my family and I have been going to a resort in Aitkin, MN for a week of sun and fishing. Through the years, I've caught many sunnies, small bass, rock bass, and the occasional tiny perch. Never in my 20-some years of fishing there had I caught a crappie… that is until a few years ago. My dad and I were sunnie fishing and it was getting dark. I really didn’t want to go in just yet because the sunfish were biting like there was no tomorrow! But the bugs were starting to swarm us, and my dad brought up the fact that we still need to clean the fish tonight. I reluctantly agreed to head in, and with one of my last casts for the evening, I brought in this big beast of a crappie! My dad said I yelped and it looked like I was bringing in a garbage can lid! My mom was waiting on the dock for us, and said she could see my big white smile despite the darkness. I was so excited! After all those years of thinking there were no crappies in the lake, I finally got one! (and you bet it tasted great!)
