Sunnies spawn

#681024 - 06/05/08 01:10 PM

For those of us that are able to get out a bit, we already know this, but the sunnies are spawning now and are actively guarding the nests. I took my other half out last night for some shore fishing on Keller and was able to get her into a mess of sunnies. They weren't big, but they were biting fast enough for her to stay content and enjoy it. We had most of our luck on 1/32 ounce flu flus in white and white/chartruese under a bobber tipped with a worm. The largest were around 7.5 to 8 inches, but schooled up enough to have fun and keep the bobbers bobbing.

Cool, sounds fun. I had my son out with me in the boat last season and found some dandy ones right on the beds. You must be a lot further south than I am, the water is only around 60 degrees here. When we found them last year it was June 23rd and the water had reached 72. It might take until July this year. We are north of Brainerd.

Yeah, I'm down in the cities. The lake we were fishing is a smaller, shallower lake, which would also help explain the spawning activity. But, she's new into fishing, and right now prefers quantity over quality. Plus, there's nothing better than watching a newbie catching fish and enjoying it.
