I need some help. I am heading to the Barnes area next weekend to the inlaws cabin. It is not on a lake, but I hear there are many lakes in the area. I Have never been in the area. I did a little research and it looks like the Eau Claire chain is one of the larger options. I mainly fish walleye, but will bring the panfish stuff for some action. I dont anticipate doing any serious fishing .
What are some of my options for lakes, species, tactics, and how are the boat landings? I have a 18.5 foot Ranger walleye boat.
Any help is appreciated, Matt _________________________
You will have no problem putting in on Mid Eau Claire using the boat ramp on the Southeast side off of HWY 27.
Straight West of the ramp, just before getting to the West side of the lake, you will find a great weed edge in 12-15fow. Large Flathead minnows or Leeches under a slip bobber drifting the weed edge has always produced eyes for us when we have been there.
Trolling cranks baits will pick up some eyes too, just be ready to loose a few to big toothy Musky.
The east side of the lake has excellent points and deep breaks. Deeper running bait such as the Rapala tail dancer has done us good while following the ledge of these breaks. It wouldn’t hurt to pick up a map and check it out before you get there.
Make sure to check out the board at the ramp for slot sizes and limits!
Good luck, hope this gives you a starting point.
