I am curious to hear what people consider for themselves to be a good day numbers wise for smallmouth on Mille Lacs. Minimum of 3 hours on the water.
For myself I would consider 10-15 fish to be a good day and 20+ to be a very good day.
The size of the smallies I catch is usually pretty good, but I have never hammered them numbers wise. I don't think I have ever put more than 20 in the boat in a trip.

What time of the year are you asking about. I've been up there in the summer some years with Wade & James and we've honestly made a mockery of Bass fishing up there.
The early seasons may not produce big numbers, but summer and early fall can be tremendous.

On a normal trip, I get some where in the range of 15-25. My best trip was 40+ and we stopped counting.
I think that if you are in the teens for numbers you are having a great day.

Two of us caught 8 smallies in a little over an hour last Friday! That was just before the big wind storm hit!!!!

It depends on the time of year and weather. This time of year its all about how clear and or calm it is. The better you can see, the more fish you will catch. I was up there all of last week. Sunday, the 1st was perfect. Warm, clear and calm. We got close to 50 fish off beds that day. The rest of the week was windy and rainy and made it hard to sight fish. Still was able to do it but the numbers really dropped. I had to switch to largemouth a couple of days. Wednesday was cloudy, but calm and I was able to boat 27 by myself. then it was back to the wind, and low numbers.

There are very, very nice Largemouth in Mille Lacs. It doesnt matter if they are 20" or 12" their body shape is the same. A large over inflatted football! Cove is probably the best. Wahkon is good as well. They are in the reeds. Last week when I was up there all the smallies I got were spawning and all the Largemouth were prespawn.

uess i spend too much time trying for northerns and not enough chasing the footballs that are there. i have always heard of a few getting cought but figured it was a fluke. im going to have to try for them now.
