The SLOW/NO WAKE went into effect this morning for Lake Zumbro. The water is rising and with more rain forcasted for part of this week it will continue to rise even more. Yesterday the dock at Ponderosa was starting to become under water where you first step onto the dock. I could tell the water level had raised a couple inches from when I put in and when I took out. Lets please show our coutesy to the home owners [and to the law enforcement] by obeying the Slow/No Wake. [besides you will get great gas mileage too] Thanks. Thanks, Bill

RHW and I fished the Zum this morning and we found the bite to be basically slow, so there's no real need to hurry anywhere out there. The crappies we did find were mixed sizes. All came on plastics.
The water is high, dirty, much cooler than last week and trash was an issue.

Thursday I found the water temps to be between 67-72 degrees [surface temps] between the hours of 3:30-8:30 depending on where I was and the time of day/evening. The water has cooled down some with the high dirty water. You can be very thankfull that it is a slow/no wake right now because I saw not only alot of sticks and small logs floating around but also alot of big logs floating too. It would do very bad damage to your boat and motor if you hit one of those going above a very slow speed. Don't get me wrong here as I love cruising the lake on plane too just like anyone else does but it is so quiet, calm and peacefull on the lake when its a slow/no wake time. Its almost like you own the lake as theres not much traffic but yet you will find a few fellow fishermen out there to wave to. Thats right-wave to. What happened to the good old days when everyone was polite/friendly and waved to another fishermen? We ALL love being on the water and fishing and we ALL have that special bond together. The fish are more spread out right now and the crappies are VERY tight to wood. In fact they are so tight that only Bill Harwick came in with a very nice basket of fish Thursday night. His basket weighed 4.7 lbs. Very impressive there Bill. Just goes to show that there are fish to be caught if you want to hover over wood and work the wood hard.
With the gas prices as high as they are you will find more and more people staying closer to home which means Lake Zumbro is busier than normal when the slow/no wake is off with last weekend being a very busy body of water but there is still plenty of water to fish. Mike at HOF told me that the shore fishing has picked up too as he has had alot of guys coming in to get bait and tackle with their kids and said they were going shore fishing. That just proves that there are ways to get out fishing and enjoying the outdoors even with high gas prices. My Dad use to say ''wheres theres a will theres a way'' and mixing in alittle shore fishing with alittle boat fishing means we get our cake and eat it too so to speak [can still get to fish alot].
Summer is here so be sure and get out fishing and enjoy the season. See you on the water.
Thanks, Bill

I was out there this morning and Yes it is still under the no-wake rule. The lake has a tremendous amount of crap floating on it too. Some of the stuff is below the surface and can't be seen. Thankfully I was only crawling this morning because I clunked something and darned near a whole tree rolled up....never had so much as an inkling it was there.
The water was cooler today too. Along with the chill, it is about like chocolate milk with a clarity that goes about three inches.
The fish were tough to come by, however I did find a few crappies which were generally quite small. No sunfish today whatever. Nor bass. Nor pike. I couldn't even find a roughie to play with.
The larger of todays crappies hit on a junebug/chartreuse tail paddletail under a float while the smaller ones hit a yellow head with a clear sparkle mini-mite under a float as well

There have been some big fat/thick logs/trees floating around and by now alot of them will be water logged which means they will be under the surface several inches so you can't see them but your lower unit will sure let you know they are there when the motor hits them even at slow/no wake speeds. Makes a guy really appreciate that there is a slow/no wake in effect right now. Thanks, Bill
