I always wondered what you guys do with these when you shoot them since they obviously can't be released. That seems like a lot of fish for one guy or family to eat.

Not to rain on any parades, but I believe throwing them away is also illegal. The regs say it is unlawful to wantonly waste any fish, even if it is a carp.

but you can't throw them back in the water or on land either... We dont have a garden to use them for fertilizer. Ive eaten carp before and made me sick so that's out of the question too. I guess if i shoot another ill just mail them to someone on here that want them

This is not true in MN. All fish that are not going to be immediately utlized (carp too) must be returned to the water.
This is one of those pervasive myths we hear all the time.

That is true about angling but you can not return a fish that has been speared or shot with a bow.
I do not agree with the shooting them just to shoot them. Enough said on my part about that.
I am often talking to people trying to educate them about fishing for the "unwanted" fish and even got my tattoo to celebrate a site I am working on for this purpose. I love ALL fish. Even sheepies(with size)
I have stayed quiet many times having a hard time at times. I say a picture of a Black buffalo shot and I only know of a few of them caught in MN in the past 10 years. A buddy of mine has caught a few and I hope to catch one this year. It will happen we all have our opinions.
But to be clear only invasive species are to be taken out of the water and not returned but must be brought to the DNR. Carp are not invasive they have been here for a long time now and now even goldfish are fairly common to see now thanks to people feeling bad for them and buying all of them from a store and setting them free!

HIPPIE! All kidding aside I feel pretty much the exact same way when it comes to all fish.

like i said before, if someone wants them, ill send them to you. But either than that i will keep shooting them because i think it is a blast and they are unwanted fish in my eyes and many others.

I'm hoping to get my bow set up for this one of these days. Especially after the little bow fishing event that the Sportsman's Warehouse in Coon Rapids had.

After fishing in Texas for Aligator Gar my position on Bow-fishing has changed a bit. Carp are fairly abundant but Aligator Gar take many years to get to an adult size. When you catch a 7 footer and release it, you wonder how devastating bow fishing can be to their numbers. I see pictures of Gator Gar on video covers piled up like cord wood from bow fishermen. I am shocked to hear that it takes many years to achieve those sizes. Is this what we want to do with Gar? I hope to fish them again because they are a blast to catch. Too bad more people don't see the value of these very cool big critters.

If i had the chance, i would NEVER shoot an alligator gar What a prehistoric creature and i think that i heard somewhere that they are almost endangered?? I think it would be a blast to catch one, but i wouldn't shoot one if the opportunity came along

Me, too! I really would love to tangle with one on a rod!!!
I limit my shooting to carp. If I ever shoot a buffalo, it will be to eat.

I think I now have a new calling (Bowfishing for buffalo). I went out bow fishing yesterday and shot 4 and the biggest quillback (that I first thought it was a carp) I have ever seen which fell off the arrow when trying to pull it in the boat.
