are carp spawning right now?

#684422 - 06/17/08 08:43 AM

I was out fishing on isles today and I noticed an unusually large number of carp splashing around all morning long in big schools. I don't know much about carp but are they spawning now? The water is about 73 degrees. Just curious!

Yes sir! You are seeing spawning carp. They do spawn at different times on different bodies of water though. Last week they were doin' the deed on Green Lake in Chisago and haven't even started on some metro lakes I've been fishing lately.

They were spawning over the 4th of July on our lake in West Central MN last year. It's weird how it can vary so much.

are they catchable while they spawn?

Muskies and PIke first, pannies and eyes second, bass and cats a distant third.

They're usually pretty interested in other things than eating. They're quite susceptible to the arrow, though
