My 12 year old son and I encountered a bunch of LMBass on the chain that are now finally spawning. These fish were extremely aggressive biters and are an absolute blast of fun to catch! We also found some Bluegills on the nests also.
People, have fun with these spawning fish, but let them go. They need to finish their business to expand the populations!
Absolute PERFECT day on the water, it dosen't get ANY better spending time with your kids and catching/releasing fish!

Bob,
Were they sitting on beds or do you think they were taking advantage of spawning gills?

don't tell anyone about the spawning bluegills being preyed upon by hungry bass

We found beds for the bass and seperate beds for the gills. Both species were relating to the same kind of cover, shallow water 2-4' on the inside weedline. The water was very turbid, so I couldn't actually see the beds. The fish were pretty beat up from making the beds in the lake bottom. I do not think the bass were bothering the gills at all, but they sure liked hitting surface lures such as buzzbaits and frogs.

Interesting, what lakes were you on in the chain? I found most of the bass spawned out a few weeks ago..it was mostly little male bass protecting the nests then...Smallmouths left their beds 2-3 weeks ago

I was on Schneider, Great Northern, Zumwalde, and Krays. Didn't even make it into Horseshoe, didn't need to.
I didn't see any Smallmouth on any beds.
The LM Bass I saw were nothing huge, mostly 12-15 inchers.
