6-21/6-23 South Shore, Herbster area report

#686482 - 06/24/08 01:53 PM

Weather was beautiful for 3 days of fishing. The bite was not though. Best numbers of fish were seen between 15' and 60' of water. When fishing deeper, the fish were still in the same water column. With the high moon, fish seemed more active mid-day. There has been a lot of recent rains, and it has the water very muddy. On a lake that usually has visibility of 20+ feet, only being able to see less than a foot was a challenge. Dipsys, downriggers, and pumps were unusually slow, with boards being the ticket. Running out to 200-250' foot of water and fishing the mudlines was the best, with lake trout and chinook, coming from the top 60'. Browns, coho's, a few chinook and lakers, were in shallow, but with the dirty water, they had to have it right on them, to bite.

No, I am just north of you, in Chippewa Falls. I have a cabin up there though. Depending what rivers, some fish start up as early as late July. Your best fishing, though, will be from early Sept., until season closes in Nov.
