Starting 7/5 I've got a close friend who's going to be up on the lake for some fishing with his wife and the kids. He's never fished Leech and I haven't been there since I was 12. He said they're staying at a place called the Chippewa Lodge Resort. His greatest interest in fishing is for walleyes, but also likes to fish for pike and if there's panfish he enjoys those as well (and for the kids).
Wondering if anyone could help provide some pointers? The only advice I could give him is to try typical structure such as points, reefs, weedlines, etc. He doesn't have a big boat nor does he have gps, so traveling long distances across the lake is probably out of the question for him.
Thanks!

Normally the walleye fishing slows down during this week but this year is different. For the walleyes and northerns try the Chippewa Bar area. Fish deep if calm pulling spinnners to find the fish then a leech. The bass fishing can be great in Boy bay. Never done it but heard its great. Plus its calm back there.

Walleyes have been biting by Partridge Point in the eve on leeches. Try for pike by Little Stony Point towrds Bear Island. Trolling small Raps works pretty good there and a few walleyes are around too. Boy Bay was great for crappies this spring but might be too weedy by now, but has a lot of bass in it too. Sunfish and bass near the shorelines/weedlines to the east of Partridge Point and by Blackduck Point. I will be up there this weekend with the grand brats so I hope the fish are still biting.

Still biting at Partridge Pt. Wow I thought that would have been over by now. I have been catching some fish on the south side pts. I went out to the main lake humps and was catching them on shiners. Who knows what will happen after this front blows through tonight. I won't be able to fish until Thurs and winds will be calm all day.

Thanks for the replies guys. I just got back from my own week long vaca on Rainy, but I'll try and get a hold of my buddy to pass the info along to him.
I appreciate the feedback!

I want to thank everyone here that responded with tips on where to fish. I did pass that info along to my buddy and although by that time he had found his own little honey hole. He did try a couple of these spots and found some nice pike fishing (pike in the 4lb - 9lb range).
The honey hole he found wasn't too far from one of the spots mentioned though in one of these posts. He said he was on his way to try a spot out and just stumbled upon this spot. Best I can describe it (as he described to me) is he found a channel/valley in between two humps that bottomed out at 24' deep and the walleyes were stacked in there thick. Nobody else fished this spot the entire week he was there, although people from the resort tried to follow him out. He caught enough fish to have a fish fry and bring home 2 limits of walleyes (one for him, one for his wife).
And, if you knew of my buddy's "luck" (or lack thereof), you'd understand that the big fish got away. He ALWAYS, I mean ALWAYS loses the big fish!!!! ALWAYS!!! He was fishing his honey hole and had what he knew was the walleye of his life on. Sure enough, he had it up to the boat on the surface and when his brother-in-law went to net it (his b-i-l doesn't fish much), he lunged the net at the fish, hit it in the head, got the hooks caught up in the net and the walleye flopped off. My friend figures the walleye pushed 30"....or better!!!!! Biggest walleye by far that he's ever had on! And, on that same day, after he got his limit of 'eyes he went trolling for 'skis and sure as shootin, one laced into him. He had 30lb braid on and he's all set up with a good rod & reel, but the fish was so big it peeled ALL the line off his reel and ping! Got away. He couldn't believe it as he said the drag was set tight enough to where he could hardly pull it off with one hand! So there again....biggest fish of his life (regardless of species) gets off! He just has a black cloud hanging over his head and that's unfortunate.
Overall the fishing was fantastic for him though. He C&R'd a lot of walleyes in the slot up to 24" (with the big one getting away). He caught plenty of pike along the weeds as well. Also caught a 20" largemouth and a few jumbo perch from 11.5" - 12.5". The walleyes and perch came on a crawler harness with crawler. He tried minnows and leeches, but didn't get a single walleye using them. Crawlers were the ticket. All walleyes came from the deep channel.
So thanks to all that responded! He had a great week of fishing up there and although others in the resort weren't having much luck, he really hit it good. Some of the best walleye fishing he's ever had.
