The 2008 ARM Event kicked off this morning with boaters arriving at 6:30 am. By 7, most boats were in the water and the owners were enjoying coffee and donuts under the tent.
The weather looked threatening but after a little bit of rain sprinkles the sky started to clear about the time the bigs and littles were ready to leave the dock.
All the kids were given rods, reels and lures to take home with them to continue on with what they were taught today.
On behalf of In-Depth Outdoors, we would like to thank Dean Marshall and Everts Fishing Resort for hosting this event.
Of course a huge THANK YOU goes to the anglers that took the day off from work, donating their gas and time to this cause...our anglers of the future.
In the following thread we will be posting some photos of todays events. Enjoy!

yeah, sorry I couldn't be down there, the first one I have missed since I have been going and a part of ARM. looks like it all went off just fine. what where the final number of kids from the MN side, just curious if they all showed up.
as a big myself, I just wanted to say thanks to all of the volunteers on shore and the boaters for making this day a special day. you guys won't get to hear about the day from the kids perspective, but being a big that has participated in this event, it is unreal what this does to them little kids. so for that, a big thanks!
also Dean, a great big thanks for letting us use Everetts resort again for this event, it is just awsome to see all of the people that can come together with a common link of fishing and make something like this happen.
like I said earlier, I wish I would have been there today.

As a participant in todays ARM event I would like to thank everyone involved. From the moment I pulled into the launch today at 6:30 I was greeted by smiling faces. Briank pulled my truck out of the water for me as I launched the boat (the trailer even came with the truck!) We had coffee and doughnuts waiting for our hungry bellies. Dean got up and said a few words and gave us some direction on where the "anythings" were. The group I had was an excellent group to have. Paul and Vicki were from New Richmond Wisconsin and their "littles" were Devon and Bri. The boat got busy at times trying to keep 4 people fishing and lines untangled and everybody's line baited. (I feel for you guides doing that do this day in and day out) After the rain stopped and we switched spots a couple times we finally got into some fish.
Devon started the day off with a small channel cat and now knew the difference between the bottom pulling on the line and a fish on the line He was hooked!!! Next Bri caught a 12" walleye and Devon was now in competition mode not to let his older sister catch more!!!
All in all we went through 18 crawlers and lots of kit-kat bars and pop. But we managed to catch 22 fish with devons 4-5# channel cat being the highlite of the trip.
As for me I didn't get a chance to wet a line but I had no reason to. Watching those kids enjoy something as much if not more than I do was a good day for me. This is my first ARM event and it will not be my last. I'll admit I was very nervous about taking part because I worried about not catching fish. If you have any doubt on whether or not to go....GO!!! Dean and the group WILL put you on fish and the other participants are more than helpful out on the water.
Once again great job today for everyone involved and my hat is off to you who put in the time and effort year round to make a difference in these kids' lifes.

I REALLY wanted to make to this one this year but I have been sick for a better part of a month and have plans of taking the week of the 4th off work already.
I am feeling alot better now and will try to make it up there to meet any stranglers this saturday . As I have promised Dean some work on his truck also...
I hope all had fun and the rain stayed away for the day.
Hope to see some of you this weekend, Jeff

I want to say THANK YOU to EVERYONE who helped out with this day. It means ALOT more to these kids than you will ever realize. Unfortunately when I came home from fishing Thursday night on Lake Zumbro with my youngest son, the night before the event, I walked into the house and the phone was ringing and on the other end of the phone was my youngest daughter crying saying that she was in Rochester and just leaving the hospital where her husband would be staying for awhile. They have three children and she needed me for not only for support for her but also to help her out with the three children so she could be at the hospital. Family emergancies come up at times and I am VERY gratefull to ALL of you who helped this event to go on. MANY THANKS to ALL of you and to Dean who ran this event. Thanks for the pics so I too could see the smiles that YOU made possible. Without YOU this day wouldn't of happened. THANKS. Thanks, Bill

Life, you and Tyler did an awesome job. I couldn't believe how fast the boats were put in the water and then when the kids came, how fast they were loaded and sent on the way.
We missed you Bill. Hope everything works out for your family.

Great job everybody involved! As a 1st year boater, I was very impressed with the whole operation What a great cause, I will be there next year for sure. I took Chris (RedneckJR) up on his offer to guide for the day, and boy am I glad I did Chris put us on walleyes right away, and by lunch we had boated 20+ fish, with three keepers. Our little had a blast, as all rods were sent her way. Our big, had his own game plan. Chelsea did a great job taking all her own fish off, and her smiles were priceless. They took off after lunch, and I jumped on Mark Johnson's boat. We had a bunch of takers, unfortunately when the rod got passed to Joey, we couldn't get them in the boat. This didn't seem to matter, as conversation was generally about the monster walleye in the livewell that was caught in the am, good job, and thanks Mark!! Thanks everyone that was involved in this important and rewarding experience, can't wait to help next year!!

this was my first year as a boater. it was fun for me to see the little one and big one's catch fish, especially when the 27 inch wally was caught at the end of the day. i would like to thank all the helpers to make things easy to get everyone loaded and unloaded from the boats. i enjoyed meeting new people and learned a little more about fishing the river. i'm 99 percent sure i'll be back next year and am looking forward to it. Well Everyone... I have about 21 more photos to post. Well, it may have to be tomorrow that it happens. I keep trying to post them but the server is moving pretty slow right now, so it keeps crashing down. I'm not sure why...it must be because of Chappy and SgtRock. they must be hogging the web. LOL
Before I forget, Dean tried to pull a fast one on us. He secretly put together a drawing for a nice rod. And the winner for that was Tom P. Congratulations Tom P.!!! Enjoy it and we hope that you catch lots and lots of fish!!!

Great Job everyone !!!!! I said last year it was going to be my last year, So I didn't go this year. But thought of everyone all day and wishing I was there. Thanks to ALL of those who are responsible for what goes into making these kids happy. YOU are the greatest. Missed everyone there. Bill my prayers are with you and your family. May God watch over you and make your son in law well fast.

Sorry it has taken me so long to post but I had to get the camera and get it downloaded. I only have one picture but it is a good one. This was the second fish of the day and Lucia brought it in like a pro. It weight 5.5 pounds and we think it is her biggest walleye to date. I have had the honor of fishing with the same Big/Little the last 3 years and over that time I have gotten to know them and the fact they ask for me every year amazes me. It came up in conversation Friday and Jean commented "We might catch fish with someone else but fishing with you is an adventure" That's a good thing, right?????
