Boat motor

#688124 - 06/30/08 04:28 AM

Just bought a used boat motor from a friend. I would like to find out the year of it. It's a Johnson 7.5 horse. Model #AD-11, serial #1616956. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

All the information I can find say's 1957

Sounds like that particular motor was only produced for 3 years (1956-1958)

If the last two numbers in the vin are 56, wouldn't it be made in 1956. And then probably sold in 1957.

Just wondering why my '57 Johnson wont pull. It started before I aquired it and I could get to pull after that but not start (no gas). Now it seems locked in place. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate suggestions. Thanks

You may have a sieze taking place. You can drop some oil into the cylinder and see if it helps after it sits for a few days. Chances are that if it is locked up know, the rings and cylinder walls are probably pitted, and may need hining and new rings if you intend to run it again.
