I will be making a trip to a Cabin on Big McGraw Lake over the 4th of July. I know it is a very small lake and I am an avid Bass fisherman. I enjoy both Smallmouth and Largemouth, but would prefer smallies. I was looking for some advice on where to try, I've never fished in Wisconsin before. I frequently fish the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers. I believe Big McGraw Lake is in Burnett county and West of Hayward. I am looking for some excellent bass lakes or Rivers in the area. Thanks.

About this time several years ago, on a small lake in the area, we had pretty good action tossing frog over lillypads, that was a large mouth bite though...

My cabin is a mile from that lake and there is pretty good bass fishing on there. Other good spots in the area are the St Croix river. You need a canoe for that area. Yellow is good just south of Danbury. The Eau claire chain isn't too far either from there. Don't be afraid to try the little lakes. They don't get much pressure from Bass guy. Another lake in the area is lake 26. It has a shallow landing but great fishing. The frog bite is unreal on Mcgraw as the whole lake is surrounded by lillies. You might find a big pike too. As kids this was the first fishing lake for me as it is loaded with tiny gills. Also bullheads after dark will stretch your ultra light gear to the max.

There are some great little lakes close by Big McGraw that offer some great bass fishing.
One that sticks out in particular is Deer Lake, but your probably looking at Largemouths there.
Anyone know if McGraw still has a decent Walleyes population???

none. We have seen largies on McGraw to 4.5lbs. For smallies the Croix would be the ticket in that area. Yellow lake has good walleye fishing and some nice big toothies. Devil's lake and big sand are also good lakes for largies. Mcgraw has stained water where most of the other lakes in the area are pretty clear.

It sounds like Lake Owen up by Cable might too far to travel to, but it is supposed to have sumo smallies. Big, deep clear and probably a tough nut to crack, but the first one that comes to mind. Grindstone, LCO or Round could be other choices too south of Hayward.
