I remember reading a solution on here about dealing with the bad ankle biting flies......... What was it?
They can get pretty annoying and I am looking for a remedy that does not involve douching the boat with raid.......as I have a youngen and a dog that spend a fair amount of time on the carpet.....

I bought some lotion for my lab at my Vet in IGH (she was getting nailed at our cabin by horseflies...). It is specific for dogs (and biting flies...) but I use it on my feet and it works super. No more itchy swollen toes!!! RR

i've heard the vanilla works for gnats instead of flies.
i tried the dryer sheet myth last weekend and it seemed to keep the flies and 'squitos away... im not 100% sold on it, but id say its worth a shot to throw a couple in the boat.
my grandpa rubbed those dang sheets all over his neck, legs and arms and he now swears they by drier sheets as bug repellant. theres just something about seeing my grandfather running around with drier sheets tucked into the neck of his shirt and the waistline of his jeans that made my weekend in spite of the slow bite!
at the very least, it took the musty smell out of my boat seats!

I haven't tried it yet but I just read somewhere that Listerine works great to keep all kinds of bugs away.

Yes, have had good luck with "Bounce" dryer sheets. Rub one on you legs and then stick the sheet in a strap of your sandal. Looks but what the heck. Keeps you smelling fresh for the ladies too

My folks use their thermacells in the boat. One by the console and the other under the front seat. I don't think there is residue or harmful chemicals left behind but don't quote me on that.

I talked to 2 different families last weekend that swore by using Listerine. One family has horses so it must work on flies too?? They are picking up industrial size jugs at Sam's Club. You just spray it on themselves and around the area they are in. Who knows it just might work but I haven't tried it yet. Anybody else tried it?

Actually; Lubriderm with SPF15 1) That way you get a nice smooth silky skin with the lotion.
2) It gives you a justifiable reason to lube down your fishing partner to set the mood.
3) You have sun protection to keep that golden tan.
and
4) Yes, it is "THE ULTIMATE BITING FLY REPELLANT".
Been using it for years and it is magical.
Not one biting fly in the bush.
By the way, if your fishing partner isn't your "significant other".........avoid 1 through 3 above...
-------------------- Wow, that was really scary and if you don't mind me saying, if that don't work, your breath will certainly get the job done.

Bk and Tuck don't have issue with this, so I'm not sure why other fisherman would.
