Round Lake/Moose Lake Smallies

#689167 - 07/03/08 12:07 PM

Anyone familiar with either of those lakes? Which of the two provides better shoreline structure that I could pitch tubes? Structure such as rocks, boulders etc. I normally just run the boat right down the shoreline pitching at rocks and boulders. Thanks

Kennaddie:

Haven't really been on Moose, but can tell you it is an impoundment of one of the forks of the Chippewa. Therefore you will find lots of wood, I am sure some rock, just not sure of how much and very tannic water. Perhaps, Bret Clark will jump on as I know he has fished this body of water.

As for Round, you have just the opposite of Moose. Big, deep and clear. I have been on this lake, but not to fish. I know it has a good population of smallies, but do not have any idea of structure, though I know they put cribs in there some time ago. Maybe Jason Halfen will jump in here. If the smallies are doing the same thing as they are over here, they are just finishing the spawn and seem to be heading a little deeper. Good luck and enjoy both as they are good places to spend some time!!!

Moose and Round are very different lakes. Probably couldn't get more different than these two.

Round is very clear, deep, and heavily developed. Rock and sand near shore, not all that much shoreline weedcover, and tons of recreational traffic. BIG smallies, however!

Moose is stained and more shallow. Shoreline timber is abundant. Not as much recreational traffic, presumably because of the stumps. BIG smallies, however!
