Soooo..... How did it go???

#689834 - 07/07/08 02:12 PM

C'mon you guys are killing me.

I was away for the 4th and no where even close to water. Quit holding out and let me know how did it go this past 3 day weekend. Are the fish biting? What did you try doing? Bobber bite good @ Dark? Rigging, Trolling or Pulling Spinners during the day.

C'mon somebody break down and say something.

I know, I'm dyin' to know, too! I was out in SoDak all weekend with the gal's family and our Saturday morning excursion to Waubay was nixed due to too much wind for our small boat.

I'm actually getting back up to the cabin next weekend for only the 2nd time this summer - my god!!! I was up nearly every weekend last summer and only once so far this year. I guess that's what women and baseball schedules can do to a man....

I ended up working on Saturday, didn't get a chance to get out to the "pond". I hear ya, waiting to see who's going to post a report. Going out on Thursday 7/10/08 to Lake Michigan to go after some Kings, Rainbows and Koho's.

How's this for a happy looking 12yo?

I "forced" him to spend a couple hours with me, a bobber and a leech and he was able to C&R this 27.75".

We were on a popular reef all by ourselves, I'm still not sure who enjoyed the event more, me or him..

I know - I have been away for too long! Headed up Thursday to give it a shot any how. I spent some time chasing salmon as well but can't wait to get back to the pond!

Pretty tuff bite for the eyes. But honestly, hard to concentrate on them when the smallies are on a tear!

Yeah, it seems you have desires for the “other side” this year.

Ok, the transformation to the dark side had started last year. Maybe it is nearing its completion. I run a “multi-species” boat the totally leans to the bass boat side. I think I have more bait casting outfits than spinning . I bought more 15-20 pound line this year than any time in the past. At any given time I’m set to toss out tube jigs, texas rigs and skitter pops.

Bottom line – I’m having a ton of fun this year and learning something new each time out. And a lot of what I am learning directly translates into a lot more bite fishing the river for walleyes. It’s definitely making me a better fisherman!

Tube jigs, dark green fleck and a light tan fleck. Get the drop rate nailed and you can't go wrong. 1/8 - 1/16 has been good in the 5-8 FOW range.

Sorry no pixs from the weekend. I lost or mis-placed my USB wire for the camera.

Yeah, Good thing the Malmo Market has the right tube jigs too! You know the bite is good when you bump into JJ and he's buying more jigs for the smallies at my favorite ice cream shop

As for this angler, it was the first time I had my oldest brother and nephew in the boat on Mille Lacs this year. We went out Friday morning and did fairly well on the "Bitcher" flat, concentrating on the top lip to the base of the flat. We caught the majority of the fish using shorter rigs (4 to 5 feet) and leeches. You knew when you had a bite. There was NO feeding of the line!
