Thinking about maybe going out after some white bass this weekend. Last time I was out fishing was the 20th and 21st of June on the tri county canal. Had good success in the very early morning on whitebass using anything. Don't need to know any secret spots, just curious if it is worth my gas money to give it a try... I am thinking about trying either Harlan or Sherman.

With the hot weather forecasted this week I would think that the shad will start to school up and the night bite should start to take off. It might be worth while to make a few phone calls to some of the local bait shops out that way.

I have not gone night fishing yet, but have seen several boats out in front of the cabin at Sherman. It definitely is time for it to happen. Reports are that some whites are coming under the lights as well as some walleyes.

Whites can be caught during the day and during the night at Sherman. Shad are still on the small side but they are schooled up and fish are suspended. Good Luck

Thanks guys, I will let you know how we do. It looks like we are heading down to Harlan. Do you think that the shad are big enough to catch them in a throw net?

I haven't been down there lately, but I'm sure you'd be all right getting a few in the net, though you're on the front side of that. Give it a week or two and it'll only get better. Get a round container, keep em alive and they'll really catch the walleyes and channels.
Good luck--

Curious about if a round container makes much difference in how well shad stay alive. I always put them in the live well because if I look at one hard, it dies, so I figuered that they wouldn't do well confined in a small minnow bucket. The shad looked pretty small, so I didn't give the throw a net a try. Another couple of weeks...
The fishing was good for little fish. I am sure that there are some bigger ones somewhere, but the school under us was all next year and the following year's fish. Always good to see that the fishing will be good in the future, I just wish there would have been some nice ones mixed in. We talked about moving to a new spot, but sleep sounded better at that point... The fish we caught were in 20-22 fow at the base of a steep dropoff near flooded timber.

A round container is a must for keeping shad alive. They will swim to the corner of a square container and die. Must have a mental deficiency of some sort. Even when using an bubbler in a rectangular cooler they die real fast.

Saturday, July 19th I counted 21 boats out in front of the cabins at Sherman. I'm too old to join them. Definitely need the beauty sleep more than some white bass.
