Red Cedar Lake/Hemlock/Balsam in Washburn/Barron

#690621 - 07/09/08 08:44 PM

We are heading up to Mikana for 4 days, anyone been on Red Cedar, Balsam or Hemlock and doing any good? I would really like to find some panfish with some size to them.......of course Jim wants to try some trolling for walleye. We are familiar with the lakes, but haven't had only 2 days up there so far this year, and it stormed both days. Any tips would be appreciated.

Hey June, wish I could help you out, I will be headed up that way with the family in a week and a half to Long Lake. Just wanted to wish you good luck! Bill

Thanks Bill. Good luck to you on Long Lake too.........I spent many summers as a kids fishing on Long Lake, and of course, we always spent time at Maxie's.......great entertainment always.

Was on Red Cedar on the 5th for a few(3 1/2) too short hours! Picked up a mixed bag Bluegill,Smallies,Walleye & the usual Rockbass.Pulling floating jigs & harnesses(leeches & crawlers) along the 12'-15' weed edges picked up 2 -16"(undersized with the newly implemented 18" limit) Walleye with 5 Gills averaging 7 1/2"- 8"in the mix.Working the rocky edges 15'-20'catching 2 more Walleye just short of 18" 3 Smallies & the ever prevelant Rockbass & picked up a nice 9 1/2" Gill when I made a swing out in 24'!Didnt spend much time fishing Gills as I was alone & targeting Walleye. This can be a very busy lake this time of year, with lots of floating vegetation in areas from heavy boat traffic & best fished early or late in the day.Hoping to get the family over there this weekend to get them on some gill action as well.Try to convince them to pull cranks for Walleye the last couple hours of light. My favorite choice there for numbers of Walleye. Best of luck fishing all! WHITE TIP

White Tip, thanks for the info. We were going to run up tonight so that we could get the early morning bite on Sat., but it looks like the weather won't be out of the area until mid-morning....so, I guess we'll wait until morning to leave, with the usual stop at Scheel's...who knows, there might be one thing on the shelf that Jim doesn't have yet ...and we can still get plenty of fishing time in on Sat. If you make it up this weekend, look for the tan/green 1850 Crestliner Fishhawk Dual Console......always nice to meet a fellow IDA member.
