After a month-long absence from Pool 2, I finally got out on the water with my youngest son, Mitch. The game plan was to check out the walleye bite for an hour and then set up for some catfish toward sunset. We were able to pick up a quick 21" walleye trolling cranks on some shallow rockpiles and then it was time to set up for the cats.
Mitch and I pitched our chicken liver treats over the back side of a wingdam known to hold our targeted species. After letting the livers soak for a half hour, we decided to check our bait. As Mitch was dragging his bait back up to the boat, he got hit...hard!!! Oh boy...a nice catfish coming up for him, or so I thought. After a couple of good runs, we got it to the boat. What we ended up netting was a beautiful 24" walleye.
None that came to our boat...there was another boat anchored in a better position on the same wingie we were fishing and they boated several nice channels before Mitch wanted to throw in the towel. He was pretty pleased overall with his walleye.

Hey Martin, I told you I would be your witness for Mitch's chicken liver Walleye, I was going to write about your catch this morning but you beat me too it! The action heated up after you left, Flats started on our big baits as soon as it got dark out. You tell Mitch to remember that catch, I have been fishing with livers forever and that was the first walleye I ever seen caught on them. Again way to go Mitch!! The other boat, Joe
I caught a 21" walleye on fresh cut shad guts below LD 14 a few years back. We slaughtered the cats on them as well but the walleye was definately the trophy for the night.
