I would check out Prince Bait on your way up 169 (guessing 20-25 miles south of the lake, right hand side traveling north). I do not know their current price, but that is where I got my leeches earlier this year and I was real happy with what they had and prices are reasonable. There are also a lot of good bait stores on all sides of Mille Lacs as well. That way you don't have to transport bait from a long ways and risk that your bait may die on the way, especially if it is hot out.

Stop into Reeds at the corner of 169 and 27. Their bait has been great

Reeds bait prices are high, as are most of their tackle prices. Stop in at the little ma/pa stores, cheaper by about $2 per half pound. Not like $2 is a lot of money, but...

We can keep over paying at reeds, end result will be the small stores going under. Or, go to the small shops, keep them in business and pay less.

I agree.

I have had a place on Mille Lacs since 2002 and have been fishing it even longer and I have never...except for emergency reasons bougtht bait on the lake. Over priced.

I can't speak for that SW corner though. as I am out of the SE. I usually take 65 or 35 up and I stop at 65 Bait on 65, incredible leeches! Or I stop at the Harris exit in 35...I always forget the name of that place right off teh freeway to the right. Wish I traveled 169 more often but I don't and I don't know their bait situation. Good luck in you hunt for leeches.

I've always had a good experience at Lundeens. Nice folks and a good local business. -lw

If you forgot your leeches and are launching out of Hunter's Point, George will have some for you. I have purchased many leeches from Portside the last several years. I try to avoid them now as it seems they always sell me a couple dead ones.

That would be Fish Lake Bait. My favorite.
