Pool 2 this weekend.

#691657 - 07/14/08 07:49 AM

Only got out once over the weekend. That was saturday morning. The fish on the wingdams where on the chew. Caught nine of the 1st dam and 8 off the second. About that time the wind started to kick in and made pitching to these fish tough.
Caught fish on everything I threw at them. Crank baits, hair jigs, plastics and crawlers. Hair jigs took over half the fish most like because thats what I threw mostly.

The size of the walleyes was typical for pool 2. Most where around the 20" mark with plenty between 24 and 26"s. Biggest one hit 28.25"s. All in all a very good morning to be on the river. Its been a while since I have found concentrations of fish holding in just a couple of spots.

Good to hear they were snapping for ya Mike. I thought it was going to be windy saturday morning so I made plans for sunday which turned out to be the wrong idea.

i hear ya. I left around noon on saturday and it was really blowing. Was going to fish again on sunday but decided to wait until a nicer day. Its tough pitching jigs or just about any bait in those conditions.

My oldest, Jackson, and I hit it Sunday afternoon. The wind made pitching tough. We only managed to get one walleye to the boat. She dove under the boat and got leverage on my crankbait before coming unglued. Nice fish though.

I fished pool 2 last evening with my daughter(20 months old). We caught a couple walleyes(24" and 17") on cranks and crawlers. The bigger one on a crank. I didn't think I had a chance of hooking a fish after seeing the Griz out there. The white bass are hitting steadily out there too. It sure was noisy by the 494 launch since they are pounding in the big supports for the bridge. I am guessing they are going to start having closures for the launch down there soon with the bridge building activity.

The other day when I was out there I was watching what I assume were white bass herding minnows into the shoreline. At one point a shad came flying out of the water and landed on the shoreline! I casted a bucktail jig up there and got bit off! So some northern must have been getting in on the action too. Also got some walleyes casting up to shore with bombers where this type of action was going on. It looked like a mini feeding frenzy the way that water was boiling and fish breaking the surface. Glad I'm on top of the food chain!
