I got jury duty in Hastings in October. I've never had jury duty before. The way I understand it is that I could end up busy the whole two weeks or not at all. Anyway, I'll probably bring the boat with me in case we get sent home early. With all the goodies locked up in the truck, of course. Or maybe Tuckner will hang around and watch my stuff?

Unless you get put on a murder trial like I did. Then it will be a little longer. What the chances of dodging jury duty until I am almost 40 and then get stuck on a murder jury.
I would take the advice on bringing a book too, those days do get very long!
ditto. bring a book, magazine, ipod, something. although when i got picked for jury duty, i just had to call in a couple times a day to see if they needed me. i only had to sit at the courthouse one day. and they let us go as soon as all the trials were selected.
just remember to act extremely conservative so one attorney or the other wont pick you!!! no defendant wants a proud member of the NRA in the box for a murder trial!
I've lived in Dakota Co. all my life (44 years). In that time, I've been called in 3 times for jury duty. Not once did I get on a trial though. ....It helps to know a lot of people in and around the county. What are the odds? Last time I was called in, I got called for a trial and ended-up knowing both Attornies (personally), the judge, the defendent in the case and the courtroom cop. I was immediately booted from the line-up. End of story. I hope next time is similar. My brother, on the other hand, was on a 3-week long trial and as a construction trades person, when you don't work, you don't get paid. He basically got $000,000.00 pay for that time. PRAY you know the judge if you get called!
Mike-pissed for only getting $10 then send everyone to the slammer and have it cost you $75,000/year to baby sit them? I dont know if you are coming out ahead on that deal.
I got called up in May, Spent a day at the courthouse and all 30+ cases plea bargained down. The threat of the jury trial is the basis of the judicial system. I felt like I got gypt out of being on a jury. I really want to see what it's like.
I got paid from work so it's no big deal. It is all of our responsibility...but would be hard if you don't get paid for not working! I'm done for 2 years now. With mileage I got $14
I got summoned a couple weeks ago, for the month of July and August. Today was my first call in day, they said to call back August 27th. So I guess unless they have a trial starting the last couple days of August, I've got pretty short duty this time. Jim
