I have been doing a little research, picking the brains of some of the best anglers I know, trying to find out who makes the best drift socks out there. I have been wanting to get a pair of drift socks to use off the bow of my boat to slow my speed when I'm trolling crankbaits with my main motor. After getting several opinions, I have decided to go with the Drift Control Drift Socks. I haven't gotten to use them myself yet, so I can't offer my personal recommendation yet, but if they perform as well as I hear from some of the guys I trust, I expect to be very satisfied. And, I heard enough good things about Drift Control Drift Socks that I have decided to make them available to our customers at Jolly Ann Marine. I don't know when I'll get a chance to get out on the water to do some trolling again, but I'll let you all know how they perform. I think the real test will be one of endurance and quality, which I may not be able to report until next season. In the meantime, anyone else have any pros or cons to offer regarding Drift Control Drift Socks? Good or bad, I'm interested in more honest reviews if you've got 'em.

Hands down best sock out there. Been using the Magnum for 3 years. Super quality, built to last. I don't see any reason this sock won't last a lifetime of use. With the float on the top rim and weight on the bottom rim, always deploys fast. Won't spin while deployed either!

We just started using one on the muskie boat and its simple and effective, easy to use and best of all works better than advertised. I'm in the market for one for the walleye boat now, the old one just doesn't work as well after using a Drift Contol.
I have had a Magnum Drift Control sock by Lindy since I had my 02 Crestliner. When I bought my new boat in 2006, I bought another one. In the 2007 Wave Wacker tourney, they were one of the biggest reasons for my 9th place finish. I had one off the bow and one off the back and even in the nasty conditions with some MONSTER rollers and wind, the Drift Control socks slowed my boat down enough to have a good day and allow me to sort through some slots. Same thing on non tourney days, I often feel I'm catching more fish then other boats around me because I have both Drift Control socks out and able to go slower than everyone else around me. Like Jon said, the float on one side and weight on the other helps for quick deployment and the one I've had for a few years looks exactly like it did the day I bought it.
Wade you are going to love that Drift Sock! The Drift Control Socks are a definite must have for me and when fishing Mille Lacs they are always in my boat.
Just got a Magnum series this year also. Great product, well made, and certainly slows the boat down. Now, the one caution I will lend is I noticed after some use up at LOTW this year, I noticed the blue aluminum carabeaner(sp?) was actually stressing and pulling apart as to allow a gap. Since the straps are prettty beefy and there is the retreive line connected, I had no problem with losing the sock, but I certainly upgraded to a stainless, threaded quick link. Just something to check. My uncle has used his for about 6 years with no problems, so it might just be an isolated issue. Either way, I would certainly recommend this product.

Thanks guys! This is the type of positive feedback I have gotten from others as well. Sounds like a great product and I look forward to useing it to slow my trolling speeds down. From what I hear, it works better than a trolling plate.

I have a magnum and a small one. Run the magnum off the bow and the small one off the back when drifting. The small one works great when trolling with it hooked to the bow eye so it runs under the boat. Have never had an issue with either and would buy another one in a second if / when I need another.

That's exactly what I plan to do with mine. I have heard that it's a great way to slow down your speed when trolling with the main motor. I can get pretty close to where I want to be with my 90HP motor, but I need to slow down just a little in the cooler months and I just can't quite get there so I'm going with the drift sock. Everyone I've talked to said it works great.

I tried using the magnum on the bow eye in a heavy chop on Winnebago and didn't like it as much as running the small one. It slowed me WAY down, but it also caused a surging that made it tough to control the steering. It may work well in flatter water, but the small has always worked well enough for me to not need the big one.
On my old boat, with a 75hp, I could slow my trolling down to around 1.6 or 1.8 using the small sock.

Good info. I have the magnum waiting for a test run but I may end up going to the smaller socks for the trolling applications and use the magnum for drifting. We'll see how my boat reacts. I have a 90ph on a Lund Explorer.
