Float fishing in Alma

#694636 - 07/24/08 10:29 AM

My husband's Dad would like to go fishing. He is nearly 90, so we thought the Alma float would be a good place. He can't get into a regular boat any longer due to mobility issues.
Can anyone give us pointers on what is being caught there, bait used, etc.? They may be going out Friday morning early.

Bait is available on the float as a rule. Other than rod/reels, tackle that is productive is on the float for sale too. There is a cafe on deck for hunger pangs.

Sauger, northerns, catfish, white bass, can be expected while a walleye might show up. Rough fish are common.

The water is fairly tame now so they should have a good time.

We were on the float a few weeks ago and handed a lot of white bass their walking papers, lol. I suspect those are still in the area. There were also some bluegills biting between shore and the float as well as small mouths.

I think they even rent out rods out there if need be. Go to http://www.almafishingfloat.com/ and give Tim or Jim a call if you need any specific needs. I'm sure they'll whatever they can to help.

Thank you. Thank you. I knew you guys would have the information we needed. We have poles and tackle coming out our ears so no problem there. My son has been fishing everyday for a few weeks now. Oh to be young again and have summers off...

Awesome photo! I see they are in a "similar" location in the river where we caught several white bass to have the boys on the float smoke for us. Very nice, glad you were able to get out and enjoy some R&R. No matter what age I feel fishing is a very important form of relaxation.
